Greetings!

I'll oddly start December with a new, lush and green forest map, I'll have a couple more winter maps this month as well, though. So don't fret, I haven't lost the winter spirit just yet!

Last November we got the new releases on the Pokémon franchise, Pokémon Sword and Shield. That got me thinking, "Hmmm, maybe I could draw some battle arenas. Maybe that'd make for an interesting encounter." As such I present to you my first totally-not-a-Pokémon-arena battle map!

The idea is to have some kind of important battle on the middle part of the map. It could be a fight with the party's rivals, nemesis, or something akin to that. Or maybe they have to demonstrate a feat of strength to a mysterious forest spirit and defeat the Champion of the Woods.

Since I didn't want to draw the arena just by itself, I went ahead and did the whole environment too. That way if you want to have some sort of duel with the rival of a particular PC for example, you can have additional enemies who don't fight fair moving about the forest area and attacking from a distance, helping the enemy. Then, the remaining party members can focus on dealing with the skirmishers and let the fateful battle between the two rivals remain between them.

I also put some water around the arena, making elimination by a ring-out possible. Additionally, it serves as an additional obstacle the group has to conquer if they want to actually reach the arena.

Anyway, I hope you like the idea. I'll have some more elemental arenas coming up on the following months.

Just as promised, I have a new winter map for all of you. When I first started to sketch out the map I was just going to have the frozen part with some vegetation around it; And while I think that could still make for an interesting future battle map, for this one I went with something a little different.

Although the map retains the essence of having a frozen lake where you can make your players fall through and suffer severe hypothermia (after rolling horribly and repeatedly failing to rescue the not particularly athletic wizard ), I drew some elevated terrain and got rid of most of the vegetation too.

I reckon the addition of the 3-level elevation can provide a more interesting encounter and some clever enemy (or player) positioning.

The lack of vegetation makes the map fairly wide open so making good use of what little cover there's available will provide a nice advantage in battle.

Last but not least, the frozen water makes for plenty of fun battle scenarios. Sliding, falling through or huge monsters coming from below are some of the ideas you can use with this map!

Greetings!

I have a brand new battle map to keep your winter map collection growing.

The environment this time is a snowy scene with a lake as it's main element. On the top left corner of the map you can find the ruins of what could be an old hut that has succumbed to the elements and the passing of time. Perhaps if your players dig through the snow around there they'll be able to find an elusive note or book detailing a mysterious dungeon with magical secrets sealed within.

Or if you prefer, you and your players can use the ruins just as cover for tonight's big encounter.

And don't forget to use the high ground on the top right to your advantage, since if you don't maybe your players will.

Lastly, be sure to place something hideous lurking beneath the dark waters of the lake. That, coupled with the bad weather will surely make for some tough times for the party.

Thank you for the nice comments, guys!

As the last map this year I've brought back a classic concept yet again, the humble forest path.

I decided to add an interesting terrain feature on the bottom right corner of the map as well to have some variety on the environment. As you might've already guessed, these "stepped cliffs" provide for a more vertically-focused encounter. Hide some monsters here and have them jump out to surprise the party while they're traveling the road!

Another idea is to have your players climb down and then ambush them when they're harvesting the mushrooms growing here. Or maybe they're just getting out of the underground dungeon and you can then spring a bandit or monster ambush as soon as they're about to climb out, leaving the party in an unfavorable battle position.

Oh, and don't forget you can also use this part to describe a change to a more rocky environment too if you like.

The forest itself has many trees to hide and take cover along with another pair of cliffs your players or NPCs can climb and get the advantage in battle.

Great map, as always! ;)

Have you thought about doing a series, maybe 10 in a ( 5 x 2) pattern, linking them all together for a supermap?

Thank you! Yeah, I was actually thinking about that the other day, something to look forward to in the future :).

And now, this week's battle map!

Even though Winter still isn't over, and I think this map would be more appropriate for Springtime I've decided to start the year with a very colorful and lush environment.

I was watching the trailer for Ghost of Tsushima the other day and it gave me the idea for a map that you can use when your players are battling in foreign lands. I know in the trailer the forest doesn't have cherry trees, but I think they make for some nice color variation from my other forest maps. That, and it makes the place have a little bit more character.

And while I like the idea of the players exploring far away lands, I have to be honest and say that the situation that really popped into my mind while drawing this particular piece was something quite different.

I thought that maybe this could be a good starter map for an Eastern-inspired campaign. I made it very colorful so it could reflect the peaceful, perhaps joyous training the party members could have at the start of their adventure with their master. Before everything slowly turns for the worse.

In either case, now you have a map that fits with a JRPG party.

Greetings!

Last month I had the idea of drawing some different elemental arenas where your players can fight boss monsters, last-stand encounters or something similar. The fist one was a forest one, and now I bring you the fire one.

The map features a big platform that's held by giant chains. And while you or your players can use the different elevations of the platform to gain an advantage, be sure to also take into account the actual chains in your battle plans.

You can use them to place monsters that have an easy time navigating terrain like that. One scenario that comes to mind is to have loads of fire spiders coming at the party through the chains while they wait for the strange magic on the center of the platform to activate.

Alternatively they can be used as a way to keep traversing the dungeon. So after beating the boss monster you have prepared for this encounter you can subtly throw at them the idea of climbing the chains onto the next part of the adventure.

But first, to reach the platform itself they need to cross over by using the magic bridge. I opted to add a magical one so you can easily deactivate it's magic and create an exciting moment of suspense. Trap them with the boss monster so they can't easily escape or make one of the party members almost fall to their deaths when they least expect.

Oh, and one last thing. Don't forget to use the terrain at the bottom of the map too! You can place additional ranged enemies to make for a tougher encounter if you so desire.

Greetings!

I'm back with a new forest path. In this one, the road coming from the West splits into two: one direction going to the Northeast and the other going to the Southeast.

The interesting part about this terrain is that it's almost completely enclosed by the surrounding cliffs, making those traveling on the road be on the disadvantage if engaged in combat.
Here you could easily place some archers on the elevated areas and ambush your players while they are traveling the path to their next destination!

A fallen tree trunk sits on the intersection, and if your players are coming from the West you can also hide a couple of enemies there with the added benefit that they'd have some cover.
