I... what? How?
Are you really that easily impressed by some Micheal Bay style CGI? Man you have low standards.

You wake up alone in an unfamiliar land. No connection to your past, no explanation or introduction to the world, etc. Its Divinity 2 all over again and especially the beginning is rather meh.

Sorry - that was uncalled for. I am... passionate about the things I enjoy!

Meanwhile we have post #144 calling the intro of Baldur's Gate boring because they had an intro in someone's home village.

You can't please everyone and some people will never be pleased with anything.

But a good prologue needs more than an intro movie.
The prologue for BG3 was quite good, even though it was very similar to OS2 (prisoner, shipwreck, etc). Of course, Elder Scrolls has been pulling the same gag for ages now, so it's more of a neutral than a negative. I particularly enjoyed the voice acted dialog that was different depending on success or failure.

No need to be insulting. As others have pointed out, the cutscene was incredibly lore-filled, entertaining, extremely D&D and above all else fun.

Apparently the actual tutorial/intro will involve taking over and ultimately crashing the ship, followed by the bit we got to see where you are a stuck with a group of survivors and have to survive through a hostile land with a very clear ticking time bomb in the background.

Compare to BG, which starts with a series of fetch quests and extremely dull and a pair of slow 1-v-1 low level AD&D combats, followed by an in-engine cutscene where an old man vaguely exposits at you until you get to see your character run off while said old man explodes some ogres and dies. And granted, exploding ogres is pretty cool (see also: the Carnival), but the coolest part of the intro is the part you have no agency in, and the most tedious part is the parts you're asked to do.

I like Baldur's Gate but you're being a bit unreasonable here.

Am I impressed by CGI (and tying it to Michael Bay is dumb, every blockbuster movie nowadays has this), CGI depicting D&D classic monsters like Mind Flayers and Githyanki having an air battle? Am I impressed that it's actually of incredible quality, comparable to Blizzard cinemtics?

Yes, yes I am.

And I'd like to add, nearly all RPGs have the "no connection to your past" thing. It's so you can insert your own character. It's literally the same beginning as every single Dark Souls game, the idea that it equals a bad game is silly.

I'll admit I joined this thread late so haven't perused all your posts here, but what exactly is it you do want from this game? Or at least, did want from it?

Yeah, if you like different things than me that's just low standards! If you agree with me that's proof that you have proper appreciation for the objective, provable, substantive things in life, like which video game openings are measurably superior in enjoyment levels.
