Whether or not it was terrible is entirely subjective and has no bearing in this argument. They were optional, had no effect on your campaign if you didn't want it to, and if you did like it and want it it was good for your game and enhanced your fun.
Then adopt it as a houserule. Published material should have some standards.

Did my last post say anything about fun? No, it didn't mention the word a single time. If it is not fun for you if I have an optional/homebrew rule at my table that has entirely no effect on your game, it is entirely your problem and your fault if your enjoyment/fun is reduced by that. My enjoyment does not reduce yours.
Mine did and yours was a reply to it.

the “but it wouldn’t have” in your previous post was about fun.

You know that a lot of tables don't allow homebrew, right? It is way better for something to be an optional rule that is official than a homebrew rule.
It is not if it is a bad rule like this. And of course WotC cannot start to publish endless amount of optional houserules without any quality control to satisfy every person's preferences.

But like I've said before, whether or not it is bad is entirely subjective. And, I never said that they should publish endless amounts of optional rules, as that would be ridiculous and is warping the argument. However, it would not have ruined the game or the book if this one rule was printed, which a large number of people do like. The book had room.
