Omand

Hero
Quark would be the closest to an anti-hero that Star Trek has had I would argue. Even that is not a great fit, as his character changes to suit his move towards heroism.

Dukat is definitely not and anti-hero. He is an antagonist/villain for the entire run of DS-9 with some small flirtation with redemption, but no real movement in that direction.

Cheers :)

I figure you mean this in general rather than specific to Trek, but it got me thinking,
has there ever been an anti-hero character on Star Trek?

Quark?
Gul Dukat?

Garak. Quark probably counts too.

Gul Dukat is not a hero at all. He is a horrible sentient being.

You can make an argument for Damar, Gul Dukat's right hand, as being an anti-hero - he actually makes a reasonable shot at a redemption arc.

Several characters from the mirror universe can make the claim at being anti-heroes.

For some folks, anti-hero is broad, and includes anyone who has sufficient character flaws, in which case a couple folks on Picard also arguably fit the bill.

I do with Michael Burnham wouldn't whisper everything she says. I'm amazed anybody on the ship can hear her. I often have trouble over the sound mix -- swelling music, while Burnham whispers.

She does this whispering loudly thing bugs me a bit, too, but mostly I dislike that positively Shatnerian thing she does where every single thing she says is the most important thing she's ever said to anyone ever. It's long past gotten on my nerves.

So, I think we are starting to see one of the impacts of the short-season format. You say that, and thinking about it... she doesn't have any throw-away lines. In a 20+ episode season, they had whole episodes of "filler", which are not terribly relevant or deep, but still have characterization moments. When they are down in the 10-13 episode range, though, the plot must be tight. There is no filler. So, yeah, every singe thing she says is the most important... largely because it pretty much is. Everything we see is terribly important. Even watching a slapstick movie is terribly important.

Everyone on Picard except Picard
Vash is a great call. Is it too much to hope for her showing up on Picard?

Speaking of Picard... Raffi is more of an effed-up hero and Rios is a pretty classic reluctant hero in the Rick Blaine tradition of running away from your true nature. I'll give you Elnor, though. Boy's just too stab-y (slice-y?). And adorable-yet-capable-of-cold-blooded-murder Agnes.

Wait, is Khan in "Space Seed" an antihero?

Garak, of course.
Sorry, I was mixing him up with Gul Dukat in my mind.

It's been so long since I watched DS9 I'm having trouble keeping up with the Cardassians :p
