And if it blows up in her face it works right?

I don't think they'll do that they'll play it safe with Burnham.

I was speaking about Georgiou, and Section 31 in general.

Burnham disobeys orders, but she doesn't generally hurt people when she doesn't have to. She generally lets other people start the fight, and she stops when she no longer has to use force. Georgiou doesn't.

In under no illusions with Georgiou she's just more interesting and entertaining.

She was great in this week's episodes de, laughed when Burnham said she had two moods, cranky and psychotic.

She has her own sub lot as well which is more than most of the others.

Interesting episode. It is nice to see someone actually being punished for disobeying orders. A bit refreshing actually.

Disco got its upgrades. Cool. But, what is the point of the detached nacelles?

I think the detached nacelles are rule of cool rather than anything else.

I am enjoying the season so far and interested in where it leads, but that particular point would seem to be all about the visual rather than anything else. In all previous shows the nacelles are there to create the warp field and assist in the powering of the ship (all techno-babble in terms of how it actually works), and the struts are supposed to have power transfer cables, etc. It would seem that without an attachment point, how do you transfer the power?

Cheers :)

Well, the series started with Burnham serving a long-term prison sentence for disobeying orders. The duration is skipped over, but she did spend a fair amount of time in prison before Lorca recruited her.

Look at what Book's ship was doing this episode, reconfiguring itself as needed to make a fast 180-degree turn, which is probably the least of what it's capable of. Discovery can presumably do at least some of that now.

I wonder if we'll see updated visuals for Discovery in next episode's opening credits. Also, I don't expect it to happen, but I have this comedic vision of Discovery spore-jumping halfway across the galaxy, and leaving its nacelles behind.

Well, that was fun

I do with Michael Burnham wouldn't whisper everything she says. I'm amazed anybody on the ship can hear her. I often have trouble over the sound mix -- swelling music, while Burnham whispers.

It's not just Burnham. I've had a few occasions where I've had to spool back a scene and play it with subtitles on, in order to make sure I caught a line of dialogue.

Saru says it increases maneuverability. So I guess that's what it does.
I colud easily see it at warp speeds - you can alter the position of the nacelles to change direction instead of turning the whole ship. At sublight, I am not so sure, maybe the nacelles are really just dropped (maybe with their own internal propulsion) so the ship has less mass to transport. But it's 32nd century engineering, and I am best only up to 24th century after reading the Enterprise Technical Manual as kid.

I was kinda expecting/hoping to see the Discovery send into action in that episode and see what it does. But I am sure eventually we will.

On ST: Voyager, the ship had nacelles that could be positioned to improve efficiency at different speeds.
