Due to this I've started watching the Fast and Furious franchise on Netflix. Had only seen maybe the first two.

Thanks everyone.
Real talk: I didn't watch any of the Fast & Furious movies until the 8th one.

Then within the week I bought all the rest and binge watched them in a day.

For context, the finale action set-piece in the first movie involves racing to get in front of a train and make it across a railroad crossing without getting hit, and the most recent one (the first one I saw) STARTS with Vin Diesel winning a race by driving a car through the streets of a city in reverse as it explodes from the nitrous oxide that was being pumped into its engine, at which point he has to dive out as the car hits a ramp, goes airborne, and explodes in midair.

The eighth movie was a WILD one for me to start on, is what I'm saying.

Yup, there will be a "big guy" who could be a goliath, although their make-up would be dull - cast an actual big guy and paint him grey! Firbolgs look a bit goofy (literally). I would say dragonborn is more likely, it's more visually interesting (warforged is also possible). Personally, I would bet against an elf in the main party - overexposed. And I don't see any of the currently announced cast looking very elven, no matter how pointy you make their ears.
They could cast Shaquille O'Neal as some kind of "big guy" and he has some "acting" experience. with his 216cm he is in goliath height range.

It's worth keeping an eye on the casting news for particularly tall cast members. The "big guy" could be a big girl of course.

there is always Gwendoline Christie, but I'm not sure if she or the directors want her in another "Brienne-ish of Tarth-ish" role.
But, who knows, maybe she wants something done right after GoT season 8 :D

Okay, there are some that if I turn off my "this is stupid" filter were reasonably fun. Not "spend money in a movie theater" fun, but "stream or red box" good.
I was pretty skeptical of the F&F movies but having seen some recent ones - yeah they're incredibly dumb, just like most of the action movies of my own youth (hey there Commando, amazing movie, amazingly dumb), but they are actually fun in most cases.

Given they are also staggeringly successful - mostly because the characters are very much this sort of "adventuring family" who may have feuds and so on but ultimately have each others backs - D&D could definitely find a worse model. Especially as that does tend to be true of D&D parties.

Rege-Jean seems like a good hire - "very hot right now" and he's a charismatic and solid actor from what I've seen. I do hope they're looking at chemistry as they hire. That can be really important but whilst some casting people are amazing at it (Nina Gold) others seem to totally disregard it. Seems like he could easily be the lead though I suspect we're looking ensemble rather than a clear lead, which would make sense given D&D is ensemble.

I'm not so sure about them including Tieflings, Dragonborn, or anything of that sort. This is a movie that MUST appeal to general audiences as WELL as D&D gamers. Tieflings and Dragonborn MIGHT (depends on how they put them) be problematic when viewed by General audiences. The movie is being made to make money and that means more than just D&D player must watch it.

A tiefling or other creature MIGHT be included, but it will be dependent on writing and producers/directors and PR decisions as well as polling to determine if they can be written in a way that appeals to mass audiences rather than turn them away...

In my opinion...of course.
