D&D 5E D&D New Edition Design Looks Soon?

WotC’s Ray Winninger has hinted on Twitter that we may be seeing something of the 2024 next edition of D&D soon — “you’ll get a first look at some of the new design work soon.”.

Including Basic D&D is ridiculous. 5e is a continuation of the AD&D lineage and they were two different games. They were supported for and marketed to different audiences. It's kinda like saying a Gameboy is the same as a Super Nintendo. Sure, with an adapter you can play a Gameboy or Gameboy Color game on your Super NES but they aren't the same system, it requires conversion.
if I am listing nintendo systems gameboy gets included. if I am listing supernintendo games gameboy games don't

I want very little added from either Xanathar or Tasha and what I want included from Tashas does not include most of the optional class features other than the Fighter styles (and, maybe, one or two others).
look up the contents of sword and fist 3.0 and complete warrior 3.5 you will find a lot of overlap. reselling you the same idea in a new half edition has president

again standing in the middle of the road gets you hit by cars going both ways.

it needs to be new and diffrent enough to warrent us buying the book, if it ONLY is tasha updates on PHB there is 0 reason for 3/4 the current players to buy it.
it needs to be compatable enough to justify keeping curse of strahd and strix haven as viable adventures...

I think the assumption that WotC is interested in getting 3/4 of current players to purchase the new Core isn't correct. Right now the Core 3 OS supports 45 add on products whose development costs have already been paid for. The margins WotC makes on selling those existing products are much higher than the margins on new products. And the more players added to the base, the more of those 45 existing products they sell.

I’m still in the probably not upgrading boat myself. I’m 47, I have a new kid on the way, and I just can’t be futzed to buy everything again when it seems to be more reaction to people complaining about what was design intent in the edition (easy houseruling) than from a downturn in sales. It’s not a “it’s sales stellar why fix it” argument but a sometimes the vocal minority is not the audience you want to be appeasing. The few things 5e needs fixed on can easily be made it into rule supplement optional rules modules like reducing hit points to kill the grind of meat sack monsters.
ironicly as much as i push for MORE change... I agree. If they had kept to what the designer hired by paid for by and doing interviews for WotC (notice I did not say WotC so don't argue) promised and did dials and optional packages this would still be THE evergreen edition...
need to fix X and Y, have vocal majority or minority asking for Z... put out a new book of options.

who do you think is going to pay for the 2+ years of development of this anniversary edition if they write off 3/4 the current users?

It will be like the black border 2E books -- the same, except worse art!

you know what I mean most classes have a clear none mechanical fantasy like how they get their powers in a way that can't be just made by multiclassing.
Honestly, I don't think core classes should be more than imagery and recognizable fantasy tropes. Tying that imagery into a specific fiction should be what setting books are for.
