@bedir than sorry for going dark on this yesterday! I got sworn to secrecy by my player until their review comes out. Needless to say, excited by the early reviews so far!

Didn't realize how many practical effects they were using in the film, but am delighted by these reviews talking about how great the world looks because of them. And very happy to hear that the humor has people laughing with the film and that it's grounded in story. Really hoping these reviews convince non D&D fans to give the film a shot, because Mario is starting to look like a juggernaut the following week, and if D&D doesn't have a great first weekend it could die out fast.

This is starting to look like a best case scenario! I am a natural skeptic and I don't eat to let my excitement get the best of me, but even I am daring to hope!

Time to organize a field trip for the D&D Club!

8 review now, still 100% fresh

Metacritic has it at 80%

Indiewire gives it a 4.5/5

damn good scores and from what I've seen folks on twitter that have seen it loved it as well, including alot of folks who aren't D&D fans.

Looks promising that this movie is likely decent. I still have a suspicion that not enough people are going to give it the time of day and miss the reviews, though, from a lot of people who thought it was mostly emulating Marvel movies from the earlier trailers (even though that's more like how a lot of D&D tables are) and the really weird types trying to push the silly "the D&D movie writers HATE men" nonsense on YouTube and such.

If the movie's good like these reviews are saying, I hope I'm wrong about not enough people seeing it. Would love to see more fun fantasy stuff.

Yeah, I am tired of the (often literally) dark fantasy and gritty everybody is miserable and then dies in a gruesome fashion genre of fantasy. One of the reasons I like the Legends of Vox Machina as well ... the fact that it's D&D based is only part of the appeal

If the movie's actually good, I hope I'm wrong. Would love to see more fun fantasy stuff.

It wasn't silly stuff, it was Daley's fault to using a charged word like emasculate, should have said male characters with personal growth or something. Right now emasculations is an extremely sensitive topic for alot folks right now.

But I read the novels and I knew a simply misstep during an interview when I saw it.

Anyways looking at reactions so far Rege-Jean Page is going to have the Jason Mamoa effect (alot of women watching the movie for his hottness out of proportion in comparsion to the women coming as fans of the IP, like Aquaman movie which was the most successful DCEU film I believe, defying expectations thanks the Jason's thirsty fans).

One woman swooned apparently. Swooning is always a good sign.

No. It was not his fault for saying this. It is one's own fault if one feels threatened in their probably toxic masculinity.
