D&D (2024) How should the Warlord be implemented in 1DnD?

Which has always had classes, with different strengths.
At one time it also have species as class.

And at one point, one beautiful point--we had classes in multiple overlapping roles that could be in the same niche in different ways instead of one big class hogging the niche and no new classes being allowed.

Things change and evolve. No need to hang an albatross around the game's neck for not being like the past.

to answer the title... as a reworked warlock... but the old warlock.

2 subclasses that mix and match
a bunch of leveling up at wills to choose a few from
a bunch of leveling up short rest recharging abilities
some mini feats that are for the class and grant bonuses or extra atwill or short or long rest abalities
over level 10 a daily game changing power every other level.

d8s light and med armor, all weapon prof Int and Cha saves prof

Ideally I Would have tactics have passive and active portions

Turtle Tactics.

Passive:
Anyone in your Command Area who follows your plan get +1 AC and advantage on Strength saving throws.
Active: You may take an action and anyone in your Command Area who follows your plan can take the Dodge action as a bonus action until the start of your next turn.
Missed that thought yes... one could have initiative buffs in passive category for some other effect too...

Battlemaster is as much a Warlord as an Eldritch Knight is a Wizard. (not saying it cannot be done but you have to recognize why people find it less than satisfactory given how inflexible the fighter class is currently and how innadequate the maneuvers are)
The Battlemaster isn't a Warlord, but it does has all the right pieces to be one. I can turn the 5e Battlemaster into a warlord by adding one sentence to the PHB.

At the end of the section for combat superiority add the following.
When you take the attack action you make one or more fewer attacks, and in exchange for each attack lost, you may gain a superiority die, lasting until the start of your next turn.

The battle master really does have all the tools a warlord needs, especially after the new maneuvers from Tasha's. Granting extra attacks, granting THP, granting movements with out provoking opportunity attacks, and lots of control options. Really it's only problem is it can't do them often enough. Letting a battlemaster trade attacks for superiority dice really makes a pretty good warlord.

I am not speaking of battlemaster.
I am not speaking of the current fighter.

I think both classes should be joined. A fighter should be the leader of the group.

That's quite an interesting idea. I wonder if that could be ported onto the Banneret chassis. I think that Bannerets should get superiority dice usable on Charisma checks instead of proficiency in Persuasion. Your class feature could expand that to cover the Warlord style manoeuvres as well I suppose?
