D&D Movie/TV D&D Movie Hit or Flop?

Paramount Pictures is apparently in rickety shape financially. I wouldn't bet against Paramount+ folding this year or even them selling off franchises to try and save the company.
Their streaming ad revenue is up, they have more subscribers than Disney, and their losses are lower than what the digital only streamers had in their decade to profitability.

Paramount has the Super Bowl next year. They'll be fine.

From the quarterly report

Streaming revenue from Paramount+ and Pluto TV, the company’s free advertising-supported service, rose 39% to $1.5 billion.

Streaming ad revenue up

Subscription revenue grew 50% year-over-year to $1.1 billion, principally reflecting subscriber growth on Paramount+, including the benefit from previous launches in international markets. Advertising revenue rose 15% year-over-year to $398 million, driven by strong engagement on Paramount+.

“Paramount continues to demonstrate the strength of its content engine, driving momentum across streaming, television and theatrical. This resulted in Paramount+ and Pluto TV reaching significant milestones with 60 million subscribers and 80 million MAUs, respectively, while CBS is poised to claim the #1 spot in broadcast for the 15th straight season,” said CEO Bob Bakish.

Combined P+, Showtime and Pluto are around 100 million (dropping overlaps). Adding in Showtime makes sense because it will be combined shortly. Falls just a bit short of Disney, so I guess P+ is only the 5th largest streamer in the world and hasn't been out but a couple of years.

This is what I was referring to. Even with combining all the services its only about 2/3 the subs of Disney, which is also about to combine with Hulu.

They're laying staff off, cut their dividend to shareholders without warning and their stock is way down.

I don't know that I would be buying any second (or third) houses if I was a Paramount exec at the moment.

They're probably fine, but they don't have the deep pockets or the diversified model that Disney or Amazon has. They've got entertainment and infamously unreliable online advertising revenue.

If any Paramount execs are not on seven-figure salaries or higher - regardless of the performance of the company - I’d be very surprised. They’re not going to have to start doing a bit of Uber driving on the side to make ends meet anytime soon.
Are you under the impression that people buying a third house typically drive for Uber?

What this means for the D&D movie franchise, if there is to be one, remains to be seen. Depending on the existing deals, it may complicate things.

(Also, you should probably buy a copy of the movie, rather than just stream it, if you want to be able to reliably watch it a year from now.)
They're doing pretty good in general. Have the top rated cable shows on their side with Yellowstone and the spinoffs and all the other shows Taylor is doing for them. Generally they're thought of as successful right now in the long term. I don't think anyone thinks they're going away soon.

More people watch Paramount shows than watch Netflix for example.

Their transition to streaming has been faster than ABC and NBC. Fox? well they didn't bother to try to move to streaming
