D&D (2024) D&D 5.11 - the time of big change is over

There was such a long pause that Morrus wrote about it.

But, again, this bizarre idea that success is now failure keeps coming up

That list shows seven (7) million dollar kickstarters last year. That doesn't seem like a long gap to me.

EDIT: To clarify, the article was originally written in 2021, but list has been updated as new projects break the million dollar barrier.

Quite frankly... I would have bought a new 5E24 Player's Handbook even if it only included Ranger buffs, 4 Elements buffs, some re-balanced or fixed spells like True Strike and Barkskin, and if they tossed out the individual species write-ups for the Half-Elf and Half-Orc and replaced the with a Mixed Heritage entry. I'd drop my money on it without issue.

When WotC announced when they were going to make a new trio of books for 2024 all those months ago... the calculation from that point was you needing to save $7 a month to be able to be able to buy all 3 when they got released (and if we add in the book price increase it's now like probably $8). And I easily determined I was good with saving $7 a month for however many months it was going to be to buy these books no matter what changes were or were not made to them. So if it turns out WotC only makes a handful of changes all told, but those changes fix things that people have been railing about for the past 9 years... then that's a good purchase as far as I'm concerned.
and new art! Really for me, the Monster Manual is worth it for the new art. I have loved the dragon art previewed so far - not that I am biased!

If by RPG KS you mean their own sysyem, then Shadowdark. If adventures etc count too, then we had some last year as well, eg the MCDM monster book at 2M
I must admit that I am much more interested in the 2024 MM than I am Flee Mortals at this point. I backed it, but the previews haven't been doing it for me. Maybe I will change my opinion when I get the final book.

Back on topic, I am not sure what 5.11 means, but I agree it looks like the are walking back some the playtest ideas. That is pretty typical of every UA we have received in the past 8-9 years. So not surprising. I also think you are generally correct in your assessment, but I am not so sure how far Druid and Warlock will be walked back. We will see!

Yep!

Wizards regularly puts stuff in UA that isn't published, even things that are fairly well received. People see the UA, act as if a major change is coming, WotC publishes no major changes, people act surprised.

It's been happening for nearly a decade

My hope is that the discussion process has inspired and will continue to inspire other developers and homebrewers to try the more interesting ideas that have been discussed. I've certainly been putting a lot of design work in because of it.
Same. The best thing that can happen is for the 5E community to also more deeply embrace third party and homebrew. However, there is such a strong stigma against third party. On forums like reddit's dndnext, you really get treated poorly if you aren't a mainline designer or a homebrewer whose spent years fighting against the stigma to build a following. Sad when other communities, like the OSR, embrace mechanical creativity on a much deeper level.

It's a cheeky way of saying things will be closer to Tasha/MotM level changes than any "3.5" level changes.
