D&D 5E Baldur's Gate 3 will allow us to explore the whole city of Baldur's Gate Seamlessly

Interesting. I wonder how much of WotC's lore Ed chooses to use himself I never did read Elminster's Forgotten Realms, but it seems surprising to me that he would accept major revisions to Baldur's Gate. Is the Spellplague even "Greenwood canon"?

Ed has mentioned that WotC can’t change canon as laid out in the TSR days. They can add to the lore (and bend it etc) but they can’t outright change or delete something. It’s in the contracts.

Hence why they have huge shakeups ever few years. See also 4th ed lore .

But they can bend things. Like say SoandSo died back in a 3rd ed storyline. They can of course use magic to bring him back but they can’t say that he didn’t die.

They can also add to the setting by doing things like oh look mysterous twin world Abeir makes its first appearance! That is the thing that most makes FR distinctive to other D&D setting, its always additive, never subtractive in terms of lore and even fact it can't be substractive once something is published.

I really hate the massive retcons in a sense. Lolth used to be good! There are good Drow cities they just hid away in secret since time began (and they are so so more awesome).

Actual Lolth having been good once isn't new, remember, she was Corellon Larethian wife once, its was jealeous of Corellon Larethian and ambition that started turning her evil and time as a Demon in the Abyss that made her far worse and crueler, completely chaotic evil. At minium this lore goes back to the novel Evermeet, which covers her betrayal of Corellon Larethian and full from grace.

Baldur's Gate is the biggest city in Faerun btw,

I'm pretty sure Waterdeep is bigger.

I think @pukunui is right that Waterdeep is bigger than Baldurs Gate, but if memory serves me correct I believe the distinction of biggest city (both size and population) in Faerun goes to Calimport, at least as it was described in the 2E Empires of the Shining Sea boxed set and the Calimport source book, but that was three editions ago so that may have changed by now. Waterdeep is definitely the biggest in the North/Sword Coast region.

By all reports, it was dull and shallow.

Yeah. It looked good, but unless you were doing something related to a mission, there's not a whole lot to do in Night City. And there just weren't many NPCs around even in areas where there should have been a lot. I still think 2077 is a good game though.
