D&D (2024) Barbarian (Playtest 7)

The Traveling Along the Tree ability for WT Barbs is absolutely bonkers (in a fun way). Every Teleportation Circle in the multiverse now has to worry about a 15th level barbarian and her five best friends showing up in it at any moment. I love it.

Also, WT Barb is Kratos from the two most recent God of Wars, right?
This is exactly what it should be. I love it.

Odin: « Heimdall, anything to report? »

Heimdall: « Not much sire. Some punk from some forgettable realm barged in with his friends all gun-ho, wishing death to some lich. They broke a few things, nothing of real value. They were very sorry when they realized their mistake. They’re in your lobby by the way. Apparently they’re big fan of yours and want your autograph »

Even Primal Knowledge + either Spider (stealth) or Owl (perception) seems perfectly fine to me. It's decently effective if you can use it during Rage's duration, but a rogue or ranger will still always be better as a full-time scout. Most exploration tends to take more than 10 minutes.

A stealthy or perceptive barbarian is fine, it’s primal knowledge. But yes, 10 minutes is just that, and you would rarely trigger it without a fight first. Still bugs me.

I see it as a serious attempt at letting the class do something other than smash.
I'd remove perception, but every other skill is fine -- great even.

As in the OP, I'm fine with it at level 3 not 2 where it was previous playtest.

Tarzan in the books is pretty much a stealthy barbarian. For that matter, even though Conan from the books is more fighter than barbarian he is pretty stealthy too.

Anyway, I like the paladin....I mean, zealot barbarian. Even has a paladin-like capstone. Now we just need demon-rage barbarian that grows tentacles and an extra head when he/she hits level 14.

yeah, I was hoping that in would become core barbarian feature.
Also reckless attack should be default rage mechanics.

I.E:

Rage:

resistance to ALL damage.
advantage on all STR and CON attacks, saves and checks.
all attacks have advantage on attack rolls vs you while you are in rage.
cannot cast spells or concetrate on spells
re-balance bonus damage if needed.

Res to all damage would have to be a scaling benefit, not level 1.

The champion is an empty subclass. It has little reason to exist. You could separate it out from the Fighter class and name it something like Henchman or Muscle or something to make sure it does not contaminate the Fighter design, and I'm having difficulty thinking of a class name for it that carries the amount of contempt I hold for the concept itself. Meathead might work well.
Nah it’s fun. You can just not play it.

I love the image of a Barbarian falling in combat, only for his ghost to rise up out of his body and start beating the snot out of whoever KOd him. Technically it’s not quite what the feature describes, but it’s close enough, and is definitely how I would describe it.
