Still good, considering you probably wouldn’t need to use a new hunters mark every round.

Does that mean that Nick and Dual Wielding is less useful now as you would need to use your bonus action for the two weapon attacks anyway and so you might as well take a different weapon property? l other than Nick.
You need nick and dual Wielding to get 4 attacks at 5th level. 2 from the attack action, 1 from Nick, 1 from dual Wielding bonus action

Yes, in this specific example.
Good. Now let's move to another example.
I stand to everything I said though.
Sharpshooter is weaker than before, while great weapon master is about the same and dual wielder is improved.

And spending a feat to remove the penalties of ranged combat means you're a feat behind.

Thus there is a larger trade-off between ranged and melee than in 2014.

In addition, dual weapons is using one of their 2 masteries on Nick. While a 2-hander can pick up a second one getting more versatility, like also taking Trident. Thus keeping a trade-off between Str and Dex.

Backgrounds also have a larger trade-off between the ability scores, skills and the feat. Treantmonk has it as his thumbnail, that it's not an easy pick.

We are not going to agree here. The very fact that feats and multiclassing are not option anymore is a huge downside for me.

Thus keeping a trade-off between Str and Dex.
On that note, the real trade-off between Str (which is weaker now, as Athletics isn't grappling anymore, and monsters knock prone without a Str save) and Dex (still great), is that you have no weapon mastery choice with Finesse weapons - only Nick and Vex. When previously I might've been curious about a Dex build, now it's the basic attack all the time dummy vs actually getting access to martial cantrips.

Edit: oh yeah, Whip has Slow.

Only monk grapple with Dex, so that’s still mostly a Str option.

And while it's harder to land, it's more powerful if you do. Giving disadvantage to attack anyone besides you.

Grapple + dodge (+damage zone) is a good way to go.
