D&D General D&D 2024 does not deserve to succeed

The new core books seem to me to be the best version of D&D so far. The books are certainly the best core books in terms of aesthetics and practical table use.

While I believe that publically traded corporations shouldn’t even be allowed to exist at all, I’m not following you on this outside of that specific context.

(And no, my wallet has no ability, not even in some idealistic hypothetical, to kill the phenomenon of corporations, so it doesn’t matter that I’m buying wotc D&D products or watching YouTube)
I am not enthused with the cartoony art. Some of it is good but a lot of the new art looks awful to me.

How are spellcasters sped up? I mean, I guess if they were casting conjure fey every round or something. Weapon mastery is another decision point and often another roll, every round, for multiple players. It adds up.
Most classes get 2. And very likely they will take one ranged and one melee, or perhaps 2 weapon fighting where one is Nick.

So I don’t see how that adds round after round choices.

Fighters will have more round by round choices, especially as they level, but they had 0 choices before and it's still far less than any caster.

Two if they don't multiclass for more masteries .... which a lot of players will I think.

  • 4 stats instead of 6. Seems a little bit more streamlined. If everyone has 14 Con then there's no need to track it. And no more confusion about Int vs Wis.
  • Ability scores are just +3. Though this is more something I don't like about D&D
These are reasons why I don't like DC20.

You don't have to throw away Constitution or Ability scores.
You fix them.

Other editions of D&D and other RPGs have the solutions and ideas to make them work. However if you never really played those games...

I think 4 is more manageable than 6 IMO.
2 strong and 2 weak, +AC.

And I don't know how you expect to fix ability scores. But I guess if you somehow stopped using the Mod and just use the score, that would work too.

I feel like that and the organizational changes are the biggest improvements and the rule changes are mostly treading water
Probably fair.

They removed some complexity from understanding the game rules, and probably added a similar amount of completely to what characters can do.

Nah. Just balance the scores. Add more skills and use Score for more calculations like DCs and passive checks.

There are more formulas than d20+ Ability mod + Prof/Level mod.

That's tunnel vision.

I've watched many podcasts and YouTubers talk about RPGs. And you can tell which ones have only played 5e and 5e clones due to their tunnel vision.

But why 6 specifically?

Sure

D20 + ((Score - 10)/2) + 2 + (level / 5, round down).

It's pretty ugly.

DC20 is an improvement over 5e. Which isn't saying a lot, and doesn't mean it's the best. But it's still an improvement.
