The summary was not by Wotc. The article talks about a whole chapter that is a DMs Toolkit. I posted it about it earlierThat's my main concern too. Variant rules are the most useful part of the current DMG for me.
It rather looks like this new DMG is players focused, since they are including a new magic items crafting system and the new Bastion system.
Of course the DM should set the price, but that can be hard to do without a sense of what a normal pricing scale looks like.More variety in magic items. Prices are more clear (meh, the DM controls the loot, they should set the price).
11,500 views on the video currentlyit is not the only thing they talked about, is it? Also, I would go by how many pages are devoted to what topic, not by what one video (that most people won’t even watch) chose to highlight for whatever reason
I think an entire set of advice on a fantasy economy where PCs get SO MUICH LOOT (in many games) would be a useful topic. Not a whole book, but maybe 2-3 pages of options.Of course the DM should set the price, but that can be hard to do without a sense of what a normal pricing scale looks like.
It seems possible. They do point out the whole bastion system is optional.I don't think we are getting variant rules this DMG......
DM: "Linda, your Bastion's pineapple harvest has been infested with bugs. Roll for insecticide. Ohhh a 7, half the crop is gone. Do you want to fire your gardener?
In other words, nothing new for a DM with plenty of experience who's used to keeping a notebook, but something helpful to newer or more disorganized DMs. Pre-made note templates to help organize the information and remind the DM what some important things to track are. That's a useful labor saving tool.Yeah, the tracking sheets actually look really good. Basically just a way to keep notes on players, NPCs etc. but they seem to include little sections that cover the things you might otherwise overlook or lose track of.
