Speaking of Dark Sun, as popular as Fallout is and the Fallout tv show, I'd be surprised if WotC didn't try to get some of that post-apoc setting dollars soon-ish.

Hopefully not just as a 20 page surface lore followed by the rest of the book as an adventure (see most WotC adventures not set in Faerun).

For those interested in encounter balance and math, I threw this together.

Direct comparison between the XP budgets from 2014 to 2024. Variance 1 is raw number comparison. Variance 2 is the two compared as a percentage.

No idea how or if the monster math has changed yet. But dropping the multiple monster multiplier and jacking up the XP budget certainly could go a fair way of making things more challenging for PCs...depending on how much more powerful the PCs are in 2024.

Since too many are insisting that WotC wants to forget about Dark Sun, what do they mention of Athas in the DMG?
wasn’t it WotC that was insisting on that? Not sure what to make of it, it is a curiosity… here’s to hoping there will be a setting book for it

I've played and run games for decades.... And this DMG is a useful reminder of so many things. I wish I'd had it decades ago. Well written, easy to understand, useful.
I'm not very far in yet, but I already feel seen on a number of levels (not least because they made a reference to forever DMs).

If you're going to make the game that different over four editions (which is not common for TTRPGs), maybe they should consider not continuing to call it Dungeons & Dragons.
Their game, their choice. Maybe people for whom it's NOT their game should just get over it.

But we all know THAT'S never going to happen. Some people just can't handle not having things their way. Rather kind of sad if you ask me.
