That's another option - Barovia's undead are invisible to darkvision!or everyone of any skill in underdark is 3rd level Gloomstalker.
now it's really not fun without lights.

or just simple, and it's skill based, while only observed by darkvision in complete darkness you can attempt Stealth even without any cover and directly observed. you just blend into darkness. and everyone has disadvantage on Perceptions as normal or -5 to passive Perception. That's another option - Barovia's undead are invisible to darkvision!
That's more or less how I run shadows and other such incorporeal creatures. I don't like the idea that a shadow creature can hide in a shadow, only for someone with darkvision to come along and be able to see it. I prefer the idea that the shadow creature can blend in with the natural shadows, so the person with darkvision just sees right through it as if it's not there.or just simple, and it's skill based, while only observed by darkvision in complete darkness you can attempt Stealth even without any cover and directly observed. you just blend into darkness. and everyone has disadvantage on Perceptions as normal or -5 to passive Perception.
See now I'm seeing every NPC Wizard going "well of course I want this" while PC Wizards won't realistically get much use out of it, lol. And all PC spellcasters will have to worry about having their at-will attacks negated without any real cost to their opponents.Off-topic, but I created a cantrip called "Diffle's Denial" for cantrips. Check it out:
DIFFLE'S DENIALAbjuration cantrip (Wizard)Casting Time: 1 reactionRange: 60 feetComponents: SDuration: InstantaneousYou attempt to interrupt a creature in the process of casting a cantrip. If the creature is casting a 0-level spell, the cantrip fails and has no effect. Spells of 1st level or higher are not affected by this cantrip.
It's basically Counterspell, except it only works on cantrips.

Oh, I used to love the fact that for 1E/2E Infravision, undead didn't show up because they were the same temperature as the air around them.Like earlier editions Darkvision shouldn’t work if you’re illuminated by any light.
You mean "you have been eaten by a grue".The dungeon is infested with ssnords. These creatures from an alien dimension are repelled by light, but in darkness cluster around living things. Unable to interact with the natural universe, nevertheless their appearance is so disturbing that anything able to see them (e.g. with darkvision) takes 1d4 psychic damage per round.
I also like the fact that it didn’t distinguish colour so you couldn’t use it to read.Oh, I used to love the fact that for 1E/2E Infravision, undead didn't show up because they were the same temperature as the air around them.![]()
This actually annoyed the heck out of a DM of mine once. We entered a room where there was writing on an archway. Once someone said they were looking around for traps/enemies, he chortled and said "Explosive Runes!".I also like the fact that it didn’t distinguish colour so you couldn’t use it to read.
