Assault on Dragonspear (5e PBP) IC

Earlier when there was talk about Darfin going alone he spoke shortly.
"Not happening. Not good idea."

When the militia appears, with Lunn already tense with all this talk about arresting of mages he steps in front of the elven lord, not blocking his ability to see officer Miller, but clearly in the way. He uncrosses his arms, dropping a hand to his belt, next, but on on the axe.
"Not happening." he growls (again)

Constable Sherlen Miller listened to all the various points that were made. She had her own suspicions and issues with the orders she had been given, and she considered for a moment what she should do. Finally, she sighed and gave Tommi a half smile and said, "I'm afraid that it's out of my hands. Now, I demand that you tell me where I can find this... Ashfell. As the warrant says, he is a Wizard that is 'Unknown to Us'."

As it was, the Wizard Ashfell was standing right in front of her, as she knew perfectly well.

Sighing with some relief, Tommi undertakes to answer. "We were going to meet Ashfell at the Happy Cow in one hour's time," he ventures. "I suppose you could wait there, and grab a bite before Ashfell arrived." His voce rises at the end of that, asking her the question if this will be sufficient to cover your butt.

Because he thinks it will be funny, he adds, "Better make it 90 minutes."

OOC: It is cheeky to add the last, of course, but he failed a self-imposed Wis check.

Sherlen shot Tommi a look that clearly meant, "Don't oversell it, you idiot."

But she said, "Yes, we will go there and begin our search. I'm certain that Lady Shalendra will gather herself to 'come quietly' in the meantime. We will be back to fetch her when the Wizard is in custody."

Shalendra, who had appeared to be ready to surrender herself without a fight, in spite of Vairar and Lunn standing between her and the militiamen, nodded. (Her brother was red-faced at the outrage, but had kept calm in spite of himself).

When the Constable and her men had left to continue their "search", Lord Darfin let out a breath and said, "It appears that we have no more time to consider our options. I do not think that it is safe for any of us to step out into the street, lest some new pretext arises to thwart our plans. Come, while I do not have a permanent circle as Isteval and Delfen do, I have used my kitchen floor in a pinch. Let us not delay."

He gestured toward what was nominally a servant's passage, and led the way.

Lionel lets out a held breath once the situation was diffused and the constable left. When Lord Darfin suggested that they leave immediately he nodded and stepped forward. As he followed the others to the kitchen he spoke up.

"Can someone tell my Ma I won't be home for dinner. I told her I would and I don't want her worrying."

Lionel then shoulders his pack and waits for the spell to complete.

"Can someone tell my Ma I won't be home for dinner. I told her I would and I don't want her worrying."

"Haw!" laughed Delfen Yellowknife, who's Wizard Tower was not far from The Happy Cow Tavern, and he was listed among Lionel's mother's favorite patrons. He explained his private joke before Lionel had time to feel insulted, "It occurs to me that we should have asked Constable Miller to let your mother know!"

We can buy horses when we get to the next town. Lady Shalendra, it might be more comfortable to get a room at the nearest inn while things blow over? Will you be joining us?

He looks to the elf, wondering what she is planning. For his part, Morgan wished he'd kept more money with him. It was unlikely he'd be able to afford a horse himself and he'd only brought the bare minimum with him. Not even rations for the journey. He'd expected to have some time to prepare once a plan was made. In fact, he'd assumed the Duke would finance the mission.

He was also now concerned about Sir Floshin leaving by himself without any backup or magical protections...

Darfin wouldn't be going alone. Shalendra would accompany him, and both were as much wizards as they were swordsmen. In the traditional elf style, they had studied both. On top of that, they insisted that the House of Long Silences was staffed with elves who had been loyal to their father.

The House seemed to be the least likely place for the Thayans to enact their plan. For one, it was a secret, and even under the (quite likely) event that Xingax or Baazka had acquired the knowledge from Shelwndra's mind, their use of her had been thwarted. Surely they would have used her to access it if she had remained under their influence, but she had not.

Still, it was worth making sure. But the elves were reluctant to take anyone else along, even Viarar and Lunn.

Tommi accepts Sheren's rebuke, and knows that will be their goodbye until they return. He'd like to tell his mom what's up, but if her doesn't show up for a few weeks, it won't worry her too much. Then Lionel mentions his mom, and so Tommi rwrites a note and leaves it to be delivered to Jyn:

No need to worry. With Lionel, Dandin, and co. Back soon enough. Get Millibanks to cut more wood for you. Tommi

Tommi leans out the window of the chamber and whistles. It's not long before Oh-Six appears, hovering over the tower and zooming in low to join them.

"Hey, pal," Tommi says, scritching the non-existant hair on the top of its not-really-a-head. That done, he turns to the others, adjusting the ill-fitting belt, and hoisting his mostly-empty pack. "I'm ready now, I guess."
