I am relieved to see the word "race" gone.
I love the background feat standardizing. It continues 2014 rules via settings like Theros, Strixhaven, Van Richten, but the 2024 standard is a bit less powerful. Many were complaining about 2014 level 1 being too deadly. Now 2024 level 1 is more survivable. (If someone wants lowest level to be deadly, it is possible to play one or more sessions at the "level 0" background before gaining levels in a class.)
I love the Orc being in the Players Handbook, rather than the "Half Orc". Species works well in concept, even when magical species.
I like how Humanoid species avoid alignment assumptions. Re Orc, the adrenaline conveys a biological flavor, without implying "evil" or anger management issues.
I prefer each setting do the heavy lifting for setting flavor.
There are improvements I still want to see (such as abilities balancing with each other and being generally clear). I appreciate the updates that did make the cut.
