D&D 5E I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

Dunno.
Having advantage and being able to reroll Chromatic Orb has, at least at low levels, let the sorcerer easily out damage the wizard.

Disagree. Paladin is still probably the strongest class.

Putting smite, divine favor, and lay on hands as both bonus actions seems appropriate IMO. Helps keep paladins using shields, instead of always taking polearm master.

Though really, I'd rather remove smite from paladins all together, and give it to rangers. Make one more defensive and one more offensive.

I think was simply to simplify.
Spells use spell slots.

Plus all the other smites where spells alread. The ones everyone forgot exsisted.
Only the base divine smite got nerfed to be in line with the rest.

Think our sorcerer in effect it figuring out tgey can twin all their high level slots for cheap and still have sorcerery points left over.

Do fans of 5e want a non 5e ttrpg as a replacement for 5e... is that the ask? Remember they can just stick with '14 and use resources from '24 if they want... with a total break into a 6e D&D.... neither adopting revisions wholesale or using parts of '24 is on the table for 5e D&D fans. How is that a better proposition for those who are fans of 5e?
Was 5e a better proposition for fans of 4e? 4e for fans of 3e? 3e for fans of 2e? I can keep going. And yet...all those editions happened.

So you're not arguing for what would be better for WotC D&D 5e fans... or even fans of '24 Revised...You're arguing for...Because it's always been done like this... IMO, an even better reason to try something different since we've never really seen a great level of success in an edition swich (outside of 5e). Yeah not really seeing how this argument for keep on doing what you've been doing benefits anyone except those who aren't WotC fans, aren't D&D 5e fans and/or want D&D 5e to be replaced (as I've been stated about your suggested course of action from the beginning).

I'm not suggesting this should be done because it always has been, just stating that it has been done, and that significant edition change can and has been a successful business tactic for WotC. I also (and more importantly to my mind) think it is better creatively, as a proper 6e would allow the current designers of D&D, now soon to be under new leadership, to develop and more fully realize their design ideas under their current sensibilities and make a game targeted to the audience they want. And I believe games are stronger structurally, more interesting, and more fun when they have a clear design ethos and target audience.

the jury on that is very much still out, and I do not see the playtest as having made much of a difference with respect to improving the game either, the approach is too muddled to be much better than a coin toss. The one thing it does is identify hugely unpopular options, in case any were included (there weren't). Beyond that its parameters mostly result in stasis, not gradual improvements
Yes, stasis with some well received changes: that is sustainable for decades.

I am relieved to see the word "race" gone.

I love the background feat standardizing. It continues 2014 rules via settings like Theros, Strixhaven, Van Richten, but the 2024 standard is a bit less powerful. Many were complaining about 2014 level 1 being too deadly. Now 2024 level 1 is more survivable. (If someone wants lowest level to be deadly, it is possible to play one or more sessions at the "level 0" background before gaining levels in a class.)

I love the Orc being in the Players Handbook, rather than the "Half Orc". Species works well in concept, even when magical species.

I like how Humanoid species avoid alignment assumptions. Re Orc, the adrenaline conveys a biological flavor, without implying "evil" or anger management issues.

I prefer each setting do the heavy lifting for setting flavor.

There are improvements I still want to see (such as abilities balancing with each other and being generally clear). I appreciate the updates that did make the cut.
Weapon Mastery was a welcome change.

While not mechanical, the complete re-org of the DMG is a literal gamechanger.
