I didn’t think so.
Now, “What is Starfleet?” is powerful! Using Umberto’s doco as a framing device is clever and effective, providing us with an intimate look at our protagonists at work (and occasionally at play). It’s uncomfortable to watch at times but also quite beautiful at other times.
I like that Nyota is the central figure in this episode, both in terms of saving the mission and figuring out what’s eating at Umberto.
I guess Erica really has overcome her PTSD! Is that some sort of motorbike that she’s building?

My impression was more that it was something that was still affecting her, but she was dealing with it.
Overall very good episode, nice to see more of an outside perspective on Starfleet.
One slightly jarring scene was Pike asking Umberto if he'd ever seen someone die after he'd filmed the female scientist dying on the biobed (plus previously that guy in the ancient ruin getting incinerated by the security system). Don't they count?

Yeah, it seemed like she’s identified it for what it is and now has it under control or at least has some coping mechanisms in place (like building that bike).
But man how many of these guys are basically orphans? It seems like La’an, Nyota, and Erica have all lost their parents (and at least some if not all of their siblings)!
I thought that was an excellently discomfiting scene! I’m sure Pike is aware that Umberto has seen at least two people die, so he’s basically saying, “You should know how it feels so you shouldn’t need to ask me that.”

The episode felt a bit too constructed and not quite earn its ending, and sometimes, the mockumentary aspects took away from the interesting story and character partt., like Spock's struggles as half-human or Nyota or Ortegas situation, and Nyota trying to figure out the alien (and figuring out how to convince everyone to go this route).
