It doesn't make them anymore appealing or professional, in general.

Teenagers swear too. Doesn't mean that makes them all grown up or more interesting.

Little kids swear also. Normally in copycatting adults. The irony is that these shows swear like little kids swear thinking it makes them seem more adult, when in truth, it must makes the show seem more juvenile to those who already have enough of that type of stuff in their life already.
I'm not sure there's a "these shows" equivalent to this one in the superhero genre. It looks to be skewing more adult than the typical WB Arrowverse type shows, something closer to Reacher or Justified. Definitely not the genre I'd expect to particularly concern itself with minding its language.

That's part of why I hated "Torchwood." All the swearing didn't feel like adults swearing--it was more like teenagers. Same with the sex--it was either voyeuristic or "Ha ha--I got you" mean spirited. There was no mature, healthy sex

yeah I agree, swearing and sex was used in Torchwood as a edgy shtick rather than a useful storytelling tool, it was unnecessary and added nothing useful to the show. Thats really the distinction to be made, is swearing part of good storytelling or just there for the 'cool kids'. I dont know enough about Hal Jordan to know if it fits his personality and the shows tone, though I do think trying to make the story 'more adult' when its about a guy who conjures a giant green laser hand is kinda funny.

I didn't even notice the swearing. Like fish and water, I guess.
I noticed it, only because I thought it was unusual for an F-bomb to be in a trailer.
It didn’t bother me though, I thought it defined the character in a short handed manner, this is someone that’s a little rough around the edges, probably not very polite or social.

I’m looking forward to the show, HBO rarely let me down.

What is find interesting in the subtext of much of this discussion is that while almost everyone seems to.enjoy comic books in the same univers often having different tones and aesthetics, many folks really hate it when comic book movies in the sane universe aren't tonally lock step.

Weird.

I have no problem with movies in the same universe being different tones: Shazam and Superman and GL, and Batman, and Steel should be all different. But if you're building a "Cinematic Universe," then like an actual team, it is only as strong as the weakest movie. Avengers suffered from Thor 1 and Captain America 1 both being crap. As the MCU continued, the bad movies continued to such down the overall quality. It wasn't a "tone of the movies" problem--it was a "Crap Writing" problem compounded by "Movie Doesn't Understand the Character" problem.
