I believe that there is a limit to the number of classes that can be meaningfully added to D&D before you get a paradox of choice. The sub-classes add a second tier of decisions, which helps a ton. IMO, the Warlord is not a meaningful top-level choice in comparison to other potential offerings (Mystic, Artificer, YMMV). Between the Valor Bard and Battle Master Fighter, I think the Warlord's niche are sufficiently filled. I don't have SCAG, but it sounds like the Purple Dragon Knight further rounds out the offerings. We don't need Warlord overload.

I don't actually care about the Warlord, but I have to say, "Forget it."

The problem is the only thing approaching Warlord-y about the Battle Master is Commander's Strike, which is terrible.

Honestly, between the Bard, the Purple Knight, and the Mastermind, all the pieces are there, it just needs to be in one class so it doesn't take until level 1 bajillion to come online.

Yeah. My wife played a Battle Master. I'll grant that it could be tweaked quite a bit. I still think that's the better option than a full-on Warlord class.

The worst part is, if they'd got the Purple Knight correct, you could have everything you need by level 11 just by mutliclassing (Mastermind 3/Bard 5/ Purple Knight 3 with the level 10 and 3 features switched).

This poll does not change the fact people will keep asking for a true Warlord until WotC gives us one.

I loved the Warlord class in 4th edition, but I fail to see why people need to keep asking for what they can already get: DMs Guild is full of Warlord variants. It is also possible to build a reasonable facsimile using the current PHB Fighter rules with perhaps some Cleric multiclassing. Just my two cents as a devoted fanatic of the Warlord.

(On a side note: I much prefer a more chivalrous image of a Warlord than the raging wrestler in the first post. )

That doesn't matter.

It is Wizard's official take that's important.

Nevertheless, that take isn't going to satisfy everyone, particularly in cases like this, where many of the people who want it are very vociferous about wanting a warlord, but often don't agree with each other about what that actually is.
Its the internet: there are people here who are malicious enough to demand public apologies, or even the removal and replacement of the people who work on the game simply because they disagree on their design decisions. I'd give it less than half an hour after the details of an official warlord hit this site before someone starts talking trash about its design, and not much longer before someone states that its not a real warlord because X.

Let's talk about that when we actually have an official Warlord.

Talking about it now only makes me suspect you're arguing why there should not be an official Warlord, and that discussion is not interesting to me.
