Honestly, it came up in this week's session.

We started using them, switching over 2 1/2 characters at level 3. Right now we're using the Expert and the Warrior, as both wanted some flexibility outside of combat. Both I (the DM) and the player feel the Spellcaster class is a little too much sorceror.

You made me think of an even better example. The Aztecs knew *alot* about metallurgy, but didn't use metal for weapons or tools.

Oddly enough I have a "Lamplighter's Guild" in my campaign. They'd be pretty ticked if mages went around doing the continual light biz. You don't want to see a mad Lamplighter.

I know some people use sound effects played back on computers during the game. Does any one have a collection they'd like to share, or can point to a website? I'm not quite sure what exactly I'm looking for yet, but one I can think of is an (animal) horn being blown, like the Boromir's horn...

Since the subject line asked, no. I feel that the specilist clerics, while unbalanced, were the most interesting of the bunch. Giving heavy armour proficiency by default is a joke.

Are there any historical precedents for thieves' guilds? Where did the idea originate? Going back to "the source" may provide some different ideas than the evolutionaty rehash of game supplements.

Non-theistic clerics may not fit the religions of a particular campaign world, but not realizing the value of the concept is a bit culutrally short-cited. Gods are one option of many.
