    Point buy and skill-based game

Try Savage Worlds. Cheap buy in ($10) for the base book, fast paced, semi-point buy. I'd get the Fantasy and Supers Companion too, personally.

Preview of the new D&D COmic!

Hello players. Well, the preview issue of the new D&D comic will be dropping at both Gen- and Comic-con, so I figured I'd swing by and introduce myself. Hi, I'm John Rogers, creator/executive producer of the TV heist/con show Leverage on TNT, one of the guys who wrote Transformers, co-created...

What's the best system to use?

Savage Worlds with the SUPERHERO COMPANION would do the job nicely. I cannot say enough nice things about the flexibility of Savage Worlds.

A Rose In The Wind: A Saga of the Halmae -- Updated June 19, 2014

You know, it was a very good list. I still don't understand why the others couldn't see the sense behind it. Things in Dar Und are a lot simpler.

    Giving d20 Modern a Try...Anything I Should Know?

A fan of the show was nice enough to stat out the drew in FATE, and I couldn't improve on it. let me see ... Parker “42 seconds to rob this bank. One security guard who never fired his gun before, two closed circuit camera's outside, one inside, and an glenn-reader safe built in the 1950's...

    Giving d20 Modern a Try...Anything I Should Know?

In theory they don't level up a lot over the course of the show. Maybe start at 8th level, end around 10-12. Eliot does pick up some computer skills, Parker learns to fight better and how to bluff, and Hardison learns to rappel (badly). 8th level Parker in True 20 would be Parker Expert 8...

    Giving d20 Modern a Try...Anything I Should Know?

True, but to be fair, I think WOTC was pretty unclear in its marketing as to what d20M was intended for. It wasn't built for generic modern roleplaying, but the splatbooks etc. implied it was. Modern20 is pretyt kick-ass, btw.

    Giving d20 Modern a Try...Anything I Should Know?

You know, I would. But if I stat out Eliot, you find out something you're not supposed to know until season 5.

    Giving d20 Modern a Try...Anything I Should Know?

You know, True20 really solved all the problems in d20M. If you don't want to take a run at Savage Worlds, I'd recommend True20.

A Rose In The Wind: A Saga of the Halmae -- Updated June 19, 2014

I would like to note that Thatch and I, instinctively, broke into Rock-Paper-Scissors without even looking at each other at that moment at the table. In 20 years of writing comedy, I've never seen a more perfect bit of timing.

A Rose In The Wind: A Saga of the Halmae -- Updated June 19, 2014

As my father always said: "The trick to killing a man on a set of stairs ... is to let the stairs do most of the work."

A Rose In The Wind: A Saga of the Halmae -- Updated June 19, 2014

Do you think this blatant campaign of pro-Arden posts will get Kormick to trust her? Nice bloody try! I look forward to his vindication when she poisons the soup ...

A Rose In The Wind: A Saga of the Halmae -- Updated June 19, 2014

You think you're confused. One of the reasons I decided to play an "outsider" character in the campaign was that I looked at that incredibly detailed and well-designed multi-faction family tree and thought "I ... am lost. Like all good Method disciples, I will use that." Now, what's...

Warriors & Warlocks out on PDF!

Wait, what? Why am I not playing in this campaign? WHAT? I'm so hitting you up for your campaign doc. Let's see if I can et Fajitas and his gang interested (although I'd prefer PL 6 myself).

    New Modern?

And I third the motion. Although I like 4E quite a bit, the 4E I thought we were getting -- SAGA with the rough edges filed off -- was the system of my dreams. I'd look at a couple of the SAGA conversions on the board. That said, I'd go with True20 or modern 20. Modern20 in particular is...

Wil Wheaton plays and reviews 4th.

See, here's the interesting bit -- and frustrating bit about the new GSL. Even as a playtester and occasional contributor, I think the framework/design under 4E is better and more useful than 4E wound up being overall. It's a filthily smooth, beautiful little engine under there. Not hacking...

Spotlight Interview: John Rogers on the Manual of the Planes

The Fomorians as "comic foils"? Oh dear. No, it's a bit more like "We've been captured by the Fomorians. Let's swallow our own tongues and die quickly. If we're lucky." A race of giant grey magic-using Caligulas, ruling unassailable underground iron fortress/empires, each utterly insane in...

Spotlight Interview: John Rogers on the Manual of the Planes

Not sure what the status of the CoS series in Dragon is at the moment. If they want me to take a swing at it, I will, but there is a big difference between doing general design and the sort of tightly integrated work done coordinating Dragon articles, modules, bigger wold-publishing projects...

Spotlight Interview: John Rogers on the Manual of the Planes

"Never Send a Man to Do a Boy King's Job". The classic long con episode on television. Yeah, not bored in the Feywild. Very, very busy. The Court of the Stars isn't hedonist playground, it's more war council/elizabethan court/venetian power struggle.
