    A&A Pacific 1940

Hasbro is definitely cheapening out once again on the components, like they did in A&A 1942, (cardboard chits instead of plastic miniatures, thinner cardboard than Milton Bradley, no paper money, and not actually enough units to even set things up properly without using chips). This time it's...

Your introduction to D&D: what order of books?

1981 Basic Boxed Set (Moldvay/Otus) + Basic Rules + B2 - Keep on the Borderlands Expert Boxed Set (Moldvay/Otus) + Expert Rules + X1 Isle of Dread B1 - In Search of the Unknown X2 - Castle Amber (great introduced me to CAS!) Tegel Manor (Judges Guild Orange booklet for OD&D)...

    Goodman Games solicits input

IMO, DCC was a really great line but when it abandoned 3e and shifted to 4e it lost me - 1e/2e/3e/Pathfinder/Hackmaster are all easy to work with but 4e really just doesn't work for me (YMMV). I'll just pick up the old DCC 1e/3e ones that I'm missing. For the future, if some Pathfinder DCC's...

What adventure module defines D&D to you?

Well, an early Merry X-Mas to you then, Lanefan, I have copies of both of these for you, so you can take them off your x-mas list and save someone the frustration of trying to track them down! I didn't even know you were looking for them I've got a whole pile of old Judges Guild stuff in my...

Core Rule Books Only - What system would you play?

Yeah, One single book of any RPG it would definitely be Hero 5th ed. Revised (6th ed. is better but is now 2 books). For xD&D it would have to be the Rules Cyclopedia. (If only they had made one volume compiling all rules from the boxed sets and one volume for all the Mystara Gazetteers, but...

Have you (and to what extent) designed your own RPG?

Heh, you and me both -- heck I think most Fantasy Hero GMs are pretty much game designers, just using a common developers toolkit of the HERO System to build their own game from much like programmers making their own software.

What adventure module defines D&D to you?

Tough call: D&D: B2 - The Keep on the Borderlands. but B4 is right up there. AD&D: T1-4 Temple of Elemental Evil. but U1-U3 is right up there.

What 1e Rules Did You Change?

I know that Lanefan and I disagree about this, but 3 of the things I miss most in d20/3.xe that AD&D had were: Weapon Speeds Spell Casting Time Weapon Type vs. Armour Type The interaction between Weapon Speeds and Spell Casting Times makes for tough calls on what choice of attack -- the big...

Orcus of Necromancer Games says "You were right, I was wrong"

Better late than never, applause to Orcus for getting these games out there! I'd love to get them when I get some cash. Lots of talk here about modules in general but are there any on topic comments/reviews about these particular new Necromancer modules themselves? Are they on par with the...

    Help me with converted succubus

so, in summary, you made her: "Neutral Good" instead of "Chaotic Evil" and used "Sacred Body" to replace "Energy Drain" but you didn't change the flavour text and alignment-related abilities or specify how they are to be used in the game. I'm confused. Is the NG is a typo or not changing the...

E6: The Game Inside D&D (with PDFs!)

Simple, if with E8 the 3/4 bonus attackers getting the 2nd attack at 8th level is the problem, go with E7 and you get 4th level Spells but only the Fighter (and fighter-ish) classes get the 2nd attack.

E6: The Game Inside D&D (new revision)

Rycanada, I like what you are doing with e6 and it seems to be working well for you! Personally, I'd adapt your system slightly starting with: - 8th Level Cap: because 4th Level Spells are still not the problematic ones that the 5th Level ones cast by 9th Level characters. Also some of the...

What text style would you prefer in a PPP Bottle City book?

Great idea, Grodog! The key point is to preserve the original text and maps in as clearly as possible. Once that is done on the one page there really is no point to exactly reproducing the text on the facing page. Personally, I find the exact handwriting transcript is particuarly jarring...

What's the big stink about Rappan Athuk Reloaded?

That's a wonderful answer to the Dungeon Crawl haters about how to use mega-dungeons for a focused mission. I love the Death Star mega-dungeon analogy. It's not unlike how one could use the good old Temple of Elemental Evil for a mission to rescue a certain imprisoned personage -- now it's a...
