(5.24 PBP) Vault Redux (OOC) Fitz's Refresher

Huh, maybe I did go twice? You said he moved down toward the caravan and then I waited for a bunch of people to post but when only half the group posted and the mercs saw the ‘barricade’, I assumed people were waiting on someone to pull the trigger on the ambush proper. So, when someone finally attacked, I assumed that started “round 1” of the ambush and I could go again.
No, Round 1 was supposed to start right when you (sort of & unintentionally) derailed it by going for a social encounter instead of an Ambush.

Look, it's fine. I'd rather move forward than backtrack, but I bet that there's at least a few other players who would like to have moved twice from where I put them! (If you're one of those - sorry about that, but let's just move on, okay?)

@Tonguez - I'm not sure I understand the specifics of your post. Did you dash? (That would require 2 successful checks, one for your "safe" movement, and one for your Dash Action.). For Shade-9 to get to S-13, he'd be moving 55 feet!

In case there's confusion, I'll give you some advice, so it's more obvious how I see it. It looks to me like you can avoid any rocks by moving straight along row14. Aywin's "paddle attack" can be used to "neutralize" that H4 as you pass by, and then you'd be (almost) safely able to Dash forward, though I'd recommend you stop with Shade-9 in P14. Then the next H4 (U14V15) can't quite reach you, and you have a moment to breathe. Does that make sense?

You definitely don't need to follow that advice, but I give it so that you might have a better idea of the whole thing, going forward.

yes sorry I had dash in my head, but forgot to specify and wasn't sure about needing the second check (which I'll do now:)).

Stopping at P14 as suggested (My assumption was that the whole line from to M14 - U14 was swift current (H4), hence the need to ride its left edge, so stopping at P14 would have got me dragged by the U14 hazard. (Thats how I would have run it :))

Will Loklafd need a rescue attempt?

Perfect!

I had placed it like that when I first built the map, but I decided that I wanted spots where you could safely "breathe". It's true that the whole river is "swift current", but I guess there are eddies that are worse. There's a few "behind the screen" things that you aren't aware of. For example, the Swift Current isn't just a pull effect (that's already taken into account by the base movement rules) it's a BONUS pull, but it also has a chance to capsize you! (Loklafd made the save when he was attacked by it).

So... there kinda HAS to be spots where you're "safe", or everyone is gonna drown!

He should be okay. Dude has +7 Athletics (Expertise), but that roller was MEAN to him!

@FitzTheRuke So I have a question? The Psion has a power called Telekinetic Propel which lets me expend a psi die as a bonus action to target any large or smaller creature and push/pull it 5 x the die roll. And as a Psi Warper I can choose to teleport the creature 30 feet instead of push/pulling it. Can I use this on our kayak for this encounter?

I wouldn't say that the passengers would come along, so I wouldn't teleport a kayak, but I don't see why you couldn't use it to move rocks (H2 or H3) they are both large size. While I characterized H3 as "bigger" than H2, what I meant was H2 is like a pile of sharp rocks, where H3 is more like a single (or a few) big rocks.. Either way, Large Hazard. I imagine that you could teleport the largest single rock in either pile and the pile would collapse. You could teleport it out of the river so it would no longer be a problem!

I figured targeting the kayak might be an issue. Which is why I asked. being able to move the rock works for me. I'll try to get a post up soon. Life has gotten in my way the past couple days.

No worries. I think we're going at a pretty good pace.

Though I'm starting to think that @Kobold Stew might have been right regarding splitting the threads. I like having everything in one place, but it feels "messy" to have two separate groups talking over one another. IDK. We'll see.

@Neurotic - Yes, the Orc Merc took the Dodge action, and yes, Advantage and Disadvantage cancel each other out. Good news is, you didn't have disadvantage!
