Adventure: Lord Byron’s Economic Woes (DM: Tenchuu, Judge: H.M.Gimlord)

Kane stands firm against the dragon's claws and finds strength in his defense, overcoming the bitter cold that slowed his limbs.

Kane hears the musicman's words about backing off and working together and it somehow cuts through the haze of his bloodlust for the dragon. The bugbear looks over his shoulder and saw Hergunna in trouble, she needed him!

The barbarian stepped nimbly away from the dragon, "Kane be right back lizard, I still need my helmut" he threatens. Kane circles around the slyblade and slams his blade into the smaller creature, batting it away from him and it smashes into the dragonshield threatening the druid. It lands on its back at her feet. Kane then steps closer to be next to it.

Thanks for picking up on the missed effects.

Dumb Rules Question: Area powers trigger OA from adjacent enemies. Now, it makes logical sense to me that a close burst/blast wouldn't trigger the OA, but can someone point me to where in the rules it states this? Is it that the power has to say explicitly "Area" to trigger an OA (even though the description of a burst talks about the area of effect). I don't think Wil takes an OA, I just couldn't find the rule to confirm.

[sblock=OA]
While I can't find anything that specifically states Close effects don't trigger, here's what OA says about triggers, which I've bolded

OPPORTUNITY ATTACK: OPPORTUNITY ACTION

Melee Basic Attack: An opportunity attack is a melee basic attack.

Moving Provokes: If an enemy leaves a square adjacent to you, you can make an opportunity attack against that enemy. However, you can’t make one if the enemy shifts or teleports or is forced to move away by a pull, a push, or a slide.

Ranged and Area Powers Provoke: If an enemy adjacent to you uses a ranged power or an area power, you can make an opportunity attack against that enemy. [/sblock]

[sblock=tactics]Don't forget that Mervin has already used his daily. Also don't forget that Hergunna has 12 HP left once she starts her turn... She may need to 2nd wind instead of attacking; not sure.

Ok, so the northern dragonshield is at -O3 and bloodied with 18 HP; the skyblade is now at -F-1 and prone and has 10 HP, and the dragonshield has 16 HP. Nice job avoiding the dragonshield's shiftiness by slamming an ally into him. Mervin can now winged horde them both twice, or wait for Hergunna to go and then mop up without the -4 to hit the dragonshield. Which do folks think is best? Since she will likely either 2nd wind or daily the dragon, I'm thinking maybe I should go first.

I will assume Wil's 4 temp HP will go to Kane? :)

If we're not withdrawing, then dropping the skyblade is a priority; his ongoing 5 is murder. If Mervin doesn't save this round he will have to 2nd wind next round and do nothing else.[/sblock]
[sblock=Tenchuu]Yeah, bursts/blasts don't trigger. That's the whole point of thunderwave, one of my at-wills.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Mervin will take Wil's slide and go to -I4.

Start of turn: -5 HP -> 9 HP, 0 temp HP.[/sblock]
Spitting up blood, Mervin looks down the frozen hallway, then looks back at his allies. Hunching over from the wound, he sees the bugbear knock two enemies together and immediately starts moving his hands. A winged symbol of Bahamut begins flying around the kobolds. The dragonshield is distracted and slightly annoyed, but at the last moment the slyblade looks away and doesn't notice it.

Closing his eyes in frustration, Mervin opens them again and with a rapid movement attempts the same spell again. This time tiny winged Raven Queens fly around pointing at the kobolds and both of them are scared, but alive.

Seeing that he couldn't kill them, Mervin backs up slightly next to Wil and manages to wrap his cloak tightly around his wound, stopping the blood. He takes another long look down the frozen hallway.

[sblock=ooc]standard: winged horde on both kobolds centered on -E-2; miss slyblade and hit dragonshield for 6 damage, no OA TENT.

action point -> standard: same thing exactly, hits both but only for 5 + 2 (hits two) damage so only 7 damage total, no OA TENT. I think they both have 3 HP left. Crap.

move: shift back to -J4

end of turn save: thank god (10)[/sblock]
[sblock=ooc]Well guys, I have to admit: I had hoped that I would roll better that time. I think that was a very ineffective round on my part - sorry for that, especially when we're so close to the ragged edge. Hergunna may need to burst or something to finish off those two guys: we really can't afford for them to get up and hit us. I think they're down to 3 HP. But at least she can do whatever she likes without fear of an OA.[/sblock]

[sblock=tactics]Yeah I guess my suggestion is for H to move up here next to Mervin and Wil and then Chill Wind the spot she was and hope she rolls more than minimum damage. Vs. fort has a good chance to hit both of them, especially since the dragonshield is currently at 10 fort.

We'd be bunching up, which sucks when you're fighting a dragon, but I'm not sure what else is a viable position.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]
Hergunna also has her encounter power left that can target 2 foes. Needs to be in beast form though.

You did your job though bob, you granted Hergunna an out. [/sblock]

Nice hit Kane! Wil shouts as the bugbear slams the slyblade through the air.

[sblock=OOC] Immediate Interrupt: 4 temp HP to Kane for bloodying the slyblade.

When was ryryguy going to be back, today? If there needs to be an NPC action I think it was supposed to be the Wolf Summons, but it is much better for her to do Predator's Flurry to try to kill both of the kobolds by her, then shift to human form and move to -I2 for cover from the dragon.

Rules question: A close burst is not an "area" attack, it is a "close" attack. There are four types of attacks "melee, ranged, area, close"... which can be confusing since close attacks cover an area :)
[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]I am back, but don't have time to post at the moment, also it will take me a while to figure out the current status based on all that happens. Predator's Flurry seems like a fine idea to me if somebody else wants to roll it before I get a chance.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]The only reason I suggested Chill Wind instead was because I'm pretty sure both guys have 3 HP left and as long as you rolled a 2 or better on damage, that would get them. Also, their fort is low-ish. The other power is an encounter and does more than enough damage, but it also dazes (which is awesome) and I didn't know if you wanted to save it or not (then again there may not be 2 things near each other again this encounter - but on the other hand the daze is nice to have even if it only hits 1 target).[/sblock]
