Chapter 32: The Ten Best D&D Novels . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .373
Dragonlance Chronicles ..............................................................................373
Dragonlance Legends ..................................................................................373
Icewind Dale Trilogy ....................................................................................374
R.A. Salvatore’s War of the Spider Queen .................................................374
Knights of the Silver Dragon.......................................................................374
The City of Towers.......................................................................................374
The Temple of Elemental Evil .....................................................................375
The Hunter’s Blades Trilogy .......................................................................375
The Year of Rogue Dragons.........................................................................375
The Savage Caves.........................................................................................375

From the index, man, the top ten D&D novels? Ironically enough, hardly any of them are actually novels as opposed to whole series. Sheesh.

Chapter 31: The Ten Best Player Resources . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .369
Player’s Handbook .......................................................................................369
Races Series Books ......................................................................................369
Deluxe Player Character Sheets .................................................................370
Hero Series Books ........................................................................................370
Expanded Psionics Handbook....................................................................370
Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting..........................................................371
Eberron Campaign Setting ..........................................................................371
Arms and Equipment Guide........................................................................372
Weapons of Legacy ......................................................................................372
Epic Level Handbook...................................................................................372

Ugh... how the heck can a book, the weapons of Legacy, be a best player resource when it's not even out yet? What are they smoking?

Man, the point of this Dummies book is beyond obvious to almost be insulting.

Wow, that's pretty ridiculous. Hopefully the rest of the book isn't as blatant.

I wonder what criteria they used for picking out the '10 best X,' if any?

Hmmm, no third party books made the list? How curious. Does the list also have a coupon for 10% off if you buy all ten books?

I'm not sure I understand the hate and/or disgust. Looks pretty good to me for someone just starting out into D&D right now. Keep in mind that the sources that aren't out yet either will be out soon, or were possibly pushed back from original release dates.

Joe, it almost sounds like you didn't expect them to do at least a little "pimping" of their current products. It's got me curious now to see if the rest of the book is written in the same explanatory tone as the first chapter - I know I'd give body parts for an index that throrough in current WotC books!

It's about D&D, not d20, so I can see the reason they didn't include third party stuff.

More than ten books, there - they don't list books, they list whole SERIES of books. And I do agree with their best novel series. I'm not too concerned with whether or not those are separate books - after all, "Lord of the Rings" is often noted as one book, and a lot of those (Dragonlance Chronicles for one) have been reprinted as one huge book, have they not?

I guess I'm just not seeing the outrage, here. Looks good to me for its purpose, so far.

I'm not outraged, it was more of a comment with a knowing smirk.

And aren't the Kalamar books from Kenzer & Co. D&D?

I am still planning on picking up this book. I think it will be a fun read, and maybe I'll learn a few things to help explain things to some of the players I know who still have trouble understanding certain aspects of the game.

Let's just put it in the category "It's probably nothing for us". It's called "D&D for Dummies"; given the nature of the 'Dummies' series, it most obviously doesn't mean "D&D for Veteran D&D Players". I never understood the outcry about "Hero Builder's Guidebook", either. It's a question of target group.
