Because knights in shining armour are not the only archetype for a fighter?

Put another way, why doesn't Conan wear full plate?

I've always preferred the Bronn from Game of Thrones style fighter anyhow.

I'm a little uneasy with how potent shields seem to be. A +2 AC bonus is pretty huge in a game with flat math.
