Assault on Dragonspear (5e PBP) IC

Tommi had woken up late that morning, and hadn't been able to find his belt. He pulled on his shirt and trousers, and there was Gutter beside his boots, but he couldn't find his belt, and Sheren had already gone off to work. He took one of her belts, well, borrowed it, and loaded up his pockets as he usually did, but the belt as too small and he was on the final notch.

He ran his fingers through his hair, and ran his tongue over his teeth. Neither of these activities made it look like he was ready for the day, but it would have to do.

He half expected to see her at the gate as well, but she wasn't about. He saw his companions, though -- well, most of them. Escella wasn't there yet. The whole situation was a mystery, to be sure. He sized up the Tower, reasonably certain that even in the daylight he could climb up it to the top to get a better view without attracting any official attention. But he was the new Tommi. He'd wait until somone else suggested that they wanted to see what was behind the walls of the ducal castle before he suggested it. (He also knew the storm drains on the the outside of the wall would connect to the one on the inside -- don't ask how he knew that; but access to it would be much more obvious, he thought.)

Morgan, wearing plain clothes, made his way up to the castle and noted the other adventurers beginning to arrive. He moved close to Tommi,

"Hey Tommi." Morgan's brows were furrowed as he looked on at the scene that was unfolding, "I hope this doesn't include us. Maybe he's cleared his schedule because he doesn't want to be disturbed during our meeting."

Sir FLoshin had much more sway than Morgan so he decided to see what the Knight would do. After all, Morgan was told to keep a low profile.

Seeing the messenger leaving, Morgan turned,

"I'll be right back"

He moved quickly to an alleyway where no one would note his presence and then cast a spell. Moving out quickly, he noted the direction of the messenger.

Moving back to Tommi, he whispered,

"Tommi, I might be a bit distracted. Let me know when we get admitted, I'm trying to keep an eye on that messenger...something fishy is up. Maybe Oh-Six can help?"

If this is possible, I will move somewhere to privately cast a spell. If doing so seems impossible, disregard.

The spell is Arcane Eye and I want to follow the messenger. It can only move 30 feet/round and I'm not sure how fast the messenger moves so it's possible I lose him. Or lose concentration on the spell at some point.

@Kobold Stew Does Tommi have Oh-Six with him?

@FitzTheRuke Assume Morgan has cast Mage Armor just before he entered town.

Dandin rode proudly upon Ol' Sooty, happily munching a breakfast apple and eager to see his companions again. Unfortunately, the mood at the gate was a bit too sour for his tastes. "Sirs, Ladies, Friends! Glad to see you all again! But what seems to be the trouble?"

Lionel walked up and waved to his friends. He smiled, it was good to see them all again. He was about to speak when he heard the comments from the Duke's guards. The duke invited them all to a meeting then bars them access. That was odd. He looks to Tommi and the others seeing if someone has any suggestions.

Tommi shrugs. "Sorry, I think Oh-Six is with my armor and satchel. All I've got is..." his voice trails off as he points to the rusty blade and scabbard tucked into the effeminate belt he is wearing, cinched too tight.

As he does so, he realizes he could have used the sling that he keeps tied around his wrist in lieu of a belt, its eight wraps binding his forearm. But it's too late for second thoughts.

"Go, follow the messenger," Tommi nods. Dandin and Lionel are there too, he realizes, along with the ridiculous, giant bear.

Tommi trusts that the bear will attract at least some attention, and so he slips away, hiding in the shadows of the south side of Morningglow Tower. He's glad he wore his boots. He finds a foothold and begins climbing up, looking to get a better view if he can, hoping that his natural stealthiness and the attraction of the bear will be sufficient to let him get to a rooftop and see what's what.

OOC: Tommi has a climb speed now!

Tommi climbed to the top of Morninglow Tower. He passed a window on the south side, where the shutters flew open and Luc Sunbright, the priest of Amaunator, gazed out over the river. Tommi slipped past, happy that the priest had not seen him. Sunbright was a well-respected man in Daggerford, but Tommi had never liked him much. He was just the sort that would always have looked down his nose at Tommi's 'lot'. Tommi didn't care what Sunbright thought of him, but he knew that the attitude would extend to his mother, or her friends and neighbours, or even someone as important as Sherlen Miller; still too 'common' for the likes of Sunbright.

Tommi reached the roof and he had a look around. First at the beautiful view of the sparkling river to the south, then at the group below, as Lord Darfin joined the discussion with the guards, who still shook their heads. He looked over the castle walls, with its inner gardens (he saw no less than three gardeners working there, who paid him no mind). Finally, he looked at the castle itself, a great manor house surrounded by its own walls and towers.

In a window on the upper floor, he spotted the duke's sister, Lady Morwen. She was watching the events at the gate with a stern, angry face. At first, Tommi thought that she was somehow angry with them, but then she spotted him, and her expression changed. First, surprise at seeing him on top of the church, then bemusement. Then she shook her head sympathetically and shrugged. She did not approve, but it was out of her hands.

Morgan's Arcane Eye was unable to keep up with the messenger. It followed him as quickly as it could, spotting him as he rounded the corner from the Duke's Way onto the High Road, but as the road zigged when it passed through the Shanties, the eye was unable to keep up, and it lost him as it passed by a crowd in front of the general store "Trade of Tools" (39) and the messenger jogged between the Shanties and a building that Morgan knew to be the residence of Curran Corvalin (19), the halfling patron of the Church of Tymora. By the time the eye reached the spot where it had last seen the messenger, he was gone. Into one of the buildings, or east / west on the Horse Way, Morgan had no idea.

Messenger (Red); Morgan's Eye (Yellow). North is up this time.

Tommi returns a sheepish wave to the Lady Morwen, shrugging his shoulders as he does, and he keeps and eye on the discussions with Lord Darfin. He want' watch for more than a minute or two, and will then scamper down, to tell the others what he saw.

Morgan didn't want to gamble on the direction the messenger went. Instead, the invisible eye hovered between the buildings and waited to see from which building the messenger would emerge.

Morgan would then send the eye into that building to see what he could find out.
