Bambi DVD - Why should I buy?

Okay, I've got the money for a brrand new DVD ($35 is the limit including tax) and I feel drawn to Bamabi. I don't know why, I just am. The little kid in me wants out and is telling me to nurture him. So either sell me on Bambi or give me another option for supporting my inner child.

But at some point buy Bambi, because once what they've already burned sells out, it'll go back to the vault for another 7 years or so.

I don't know if you have kids, but if you do, I consider Bambi one of the critical elements of parenthood.

You simply must have an answer ready when your 4 yr old asks "where's Bambi's mommy?"

I have kids, and I am unmoved by Bambi. I only saw it once as a kid and found it vaguely scary and yet mostly boring. I'll take modern stuff like Pixar, Dreamworks, and Miyazaki.

As a side note, I have a VHS copy of Toy Story that my son watches fairly often. On the previews for it, it talks about how Bambi is being released from the vaults in 1997. So if you really want it, get it now. It'll be 2013 before it's out again. :)

Yeah, but that scene where Bambi is talking to the mob guy's henchman, and is trying to make peace, and the henchman says, "I'm going to hunt you down, and someday, someday, I'll be there when you least expect it, and then BAM," and Bambi goes "Darn" and then kicks the henchman into the ship's engine... that's freakin' awesome.

Or that part where Thumper is going to get sucked out of the ship's bay, and is shouting, and when Bambi comes back to check and Thumper asks what Bambi is going to tell the others, and then goes on to say, "You tell them a lie. Don't tell 'em what I did," and you realize that under that gruff exterior, Thumper realizes that he's gone too far and is having stirrings of conscience... that just doesn't get done well enough these days.

Or when Flower grabs the gun and fires those three perfect shots around the corner without looking... great cinematography. Good stuff.

I'd say don't get it now- wait for it on a deal, sale or just not the top dollar amount. You have to get it at some point though. It's a classic, and tells a classic story that our kids and our kids kids will like, understand and be entertained by it.

I was going to say "buy it" until I read Cyberzombie's post and agreed... How about you go Ebaying for 2 DVDs instead? You could probably pick up both Bambi and Studio Ghibli's "The Cat Returns" for the same cash as retailing one or the other. It's not Miyazaki-ghibli, but it's still quite good, and both will scratch the same niche... er itch that you have for some good children/family entertainment. My favorite movie ever is still Miyazaki's Kiki's Delivery Service, though.

Waiting for The Incredibles isn't a bad idea either, but I like the virtual-instant gratification of online impulse buys.
