Also, I am really starting to hate this incarnation of Starbuck.

Moving her into a command position (ala last night's episode) has the potential to make the character far more interesting than she has been so far.

Starbuck may not be the 'hawt-est' woman on TV, but her character's attitude, and badassittude, make her very, um, inspiring.

*shrug* To me she just comes across as an actress wannabee who is trying to hard. There is no real badassittude there, just a surface veneer backed up by a sloppy rear end. :)

a lot has been said in past threads about Starbuck. It seems the problem most have is the "Starbuck is the best fill in here" mentality. Which last night's episode catered to greatly. I too am becoming sick of this. Best pilot, best sniper, best negotiator and best strategist. Where does it end?

Anyway, I enjoyed last nights episode with some shooting and blowing stuff up. It was good fun.

I don't have the problem with the low-tech aspects of BSG. Temprus summed that up well.

And Katee Sackhoff's acting reminds a lot of how I felt watching Nana Visitor playing Kira on DS:9. The overacting grated on me. I do think Sackhoff is getting better though.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing last night too. As a character, she seems to have all 18s (except possibly Charisma, which is somewhere in the 12 to 14 range). I was happy that Lee finally got a chance to shine. I've been waiting for that since the beginning of this incarnation. Here's hoping he doesn't turn into the next Cmdr Riker - the most underutilized character on the show.

Wow, I am so going to have to disagree with you on this. I really couldn't stand Nana Visitor most of the time. On the other hand, I tend to enjoy most of Katee Sackhoff's scenes more than most.

I really think Boomer is stealing the show.

I remember this old Archie comic from years ago. It was a simple statement how asking four people their opinion about a movie got four different answers. (And, of course, Jughead's was about the popcorn not the movie.) Reading through the Star Wars thread reminded me of that even more.

I like BSG this time around. I like what they have been doing. I personally think that Starbuck *isn't* the best strategist, which is why they invited her to the meetings. I think Adama even said that. Apollo is probably the better strategist and diplomat but hasn't had a chance to shine, like he did in this episode.

What confused me was Starbuck interrogating the cylon from the last episode. It didn't seem to work for me. And, being reprimanded by the President, moments before she shoved him out the airlock, also seemed weird. However, all of that fit very well in a larger scope of things. Adama needs officers. He needs people that he know will do a job well, even if it isn't always by the book. So, I think he is training her and that's why she is getting all of the attention now. That's just me, though. I tend to rationalize things when I like them.

As for the DS9 comments, I didn't have a problem with Nana Visitor's portrayal of Kira when my wife and I watched it on DVD as it came out. It made sense to me that she was trying hard to show the quadrant that her planet was worthy of what everyone else had. Now, Terry Farrel's portrayal of Dax, on the other hand, left me cringing. Again, this is also about how opinion's change. When I first watched DS9, when it was on the air, I thought Ferrel was doing well and Visitor did need to do something different. Ah, well.

Have a good one! Take care!

Well, I dig the prohecy like dream and explanation for the President.

Boomer #1*planetside*, had possible [sblock]morning sickness[/sblock], and no one here mention that....hehehe

Apollo is coming into on his own...and man, good flying.

The losses of pilots, were just...heart rendering...especially the shot through the canopy, the other girl's viper just getting shot to pieces...and the cries. Mercy.

The 'back door is open", was a SWEET plan.

James is indeed the actor for the role.

As for Starbuck, I consider this first season, as a alpha state, a try out of can be done or not...I presume later, the references to Starbuck, being the best of near everything...will fade into the background.

But seeing that she had to transit from pilot to the command chair, was hard for her, and that was nice to show, especially the scene in the gym. Got that busted knee, which is still healing, but it did show she is not there yet. Not physically.

And now, for the small victory for the fuel, Amanda almost or did let some tears fllow in C&C. That was downright....beautiful.

I think all I'm getting off of Starbuck is that she IS the best pilot, and only former pilot instructor that apparently still has flying days in her future - but that's all. More importantly though, is the idea that Adama trusts her - maybe even more than his own son, because the President has established a sense of divided loyalties with Apollo. So he sends her to do things for him, entrusts her with confidences; in a real way I think she represents his dead son to him. She's obviously not the best interrogator, or even the best poker player (which I think they're weirdly enough suggesting that Balthazar is, I guess it's hard to read the face of insane geniuses).

I spent the end of this episode wondering how many Vipers they actually had left now, and how many pilots. Pretty soon they're going to have to go to the prison ship again just so they get some pilots.

I concure with that thought...as for pilots, that will come around soon enough.

I posit to you that she is not the best at anything. I don't think she did a very good job at interrogating Leoben, for example. I think she was getting played like a card game, and she didn't even know it. I also agree that she is also not the best strategist, that the battle plan cooked up was a mix between Tigh's, Lee's, and Starbuck's. I think Adama may have a little too much faith in her, which is probably his biggest blind spot. I wonder if they'll make an episode on that blind spot is S2, or the future.
