just a request: will someone throw up a big HEY one of these days when sci-fi decides to do a BG marathon (otherwise I'll have to wait until it comes out DVD) ... catching this show piecemeal is killing me ...

Well, they lost three Vipers and three pilots; Chuckles and I *think* Cat in the backdoor force, and one guy in the initial strike (not Hot Dog). They had 40 Vipers when the 13 pilots got killed, and a dozen or so were down-checked during the Search for Starbuck (as well as the one that Starbuck lost). So, they've anywhere between 24 and 36 Vipers right now, assuming that some or all of the downchecked Vipers get brought back up.

According to The ships part of the BSG webpage , there are 12 Vipers in service, 23 in for repair, 21 pilots on duty, and 5 scrubs (as of 1.10).

Remember those numbers as we roll into the season finale...

a lot has been said in past threads about Starbuck. It seems the problem most have is the "Starbuck is the best fill in here" mentality. Which last night's episode catered to greatly. I too am becoming sick of this. Best pilot, best sniper, best negotiator and best strategist. Where does it end?

I have been critical of the character in the past but I think her new roll flying a desk rather than a Viper fits perfectly within the character concept. Seeing how she deals with the change in responsibility has quite a bit of potential. That is probably the hardest transition for fighter pilots to make and it will be interesting to see how she handles it.

Baltar is clearly insane, and suffering because of his actions in the Cylon destruction of Caprica...I loved the line " everyone is turning green these days "...he is just nutso...I love Grace Park, but a pregnant Cylon is going to really disappoint me. I like Starbuck, I think they are force feeding her to us a little much, but it will settle down.

Yep, seems Caprica-Boomer is pregnant. I have to wonder just what a human-cylon hybrid is like. Which brings me to an idea I'll hide, just in case:

I wonder if there are any human-cylon hybrids around already? If so, my money's on Starbuck.

And I'm surprised no one mentioned Baltar's semi-Christ-like pose at the end, when he determines he is "an instrument of God."
Yeah, I saw that...it just...it just....*mind numbed*

On Starbuck...??

By the way, I would recommend anyone to check out all the nice specials and goodies on the SciFi website for Battlestar Galactica. Especially the blog and the podcast might give some nice insight.

Just as an example (in spoiler tags, just in case you don´t want to know more about Starbucks background - since it hasn´t been stated on screen yet):
According to the podcast to Hand of God, this isn´t Starbucks first knee injury. She was originally a member of the military academy because of her sports career - she was a Pyramid Player, but when her knee was injured (the first time), she was unable to continue the career. So she eventually decided to become a pilot instead - and figured out she was good at it. It might also explain her broad amount of skills - she tried out different possible career paths after her injury, until she found out that Pilot would be the right one...
(And it also explains her lack of formal discipline - she originally wasn´t in there for the military, she was there for the sports...)

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing last night too. As a character, she seems to have all 18s (except possibly Charisma, which is somewhere in the 12 to 14 range). I was happy that Lee finally got a chance to shine. I've been waiting for that since the beginning of this incarnation. Here's hoping he doesn't turn into the next Cmdr Riker - the most underutilized character on the show.
Lee was great and I liked the push his father did when they even chatted about 'you like her more' and he responded 'no your my son.'
Also I loved him being the hero :) didn't like that he managed it by having to pull a 'starbuck' stunt.... but maybe the writers are fixing her stats :)

I also have to say I liked the different variations on interpreting the prophesey of 12. It was cool to see how completely different it can be read, and will be cool to see if either is actually correct or it is actually referring to somethgin completely different.

Nope, in the miniseries they state that BSG was state of the art, well state of the art for its time, which was 50 or so years before current storyline. Hence the wired telephones and such.

Adama purposely has not allowed newer tech (read higher end computers) on BSG because the Cylons could take it over. Which is why BSG is still around unlike the other BSs they mention being taken over during the first Cylon attack.

Edit: Weird, Wolf72's post was not showing up when I posted my response.

Actually, in the miniseries it was specified that they didn't network the computers together. So they could have all the powerful computers they want/need (FTL drives, hello?), just not networked together.

And I'm surprised no one mentioned Baltar's semi-Christ-like pose at the end, when
he determines he is "an instrument of God."

He just digs himself deeper and deeper. Sad.

Best pilot, best sniper, best negotiator and best strategist.

Negotiator? When did she do that?
