D&D 5E Booming Blade and Green-Flame Blade Nerfed in TCoE

No longer being able to use those cantrips with Reach weapons (with Distant Spell or Spell Sniper) is a tragedy. I think the wording is better in general, but it should be usable with any melee weapon.

I'm thinking about ignoring the range and allowing it with any weapon. Want to booming blade with a reach weapon? Go for it.

Yep; the 1 sp was there to prevent component pouches from containing melee weapon components.

It just messes up people having their goofy fun times with weird rules interactions.

No fun is wrong fun, but DMs who allow improvised weapons and unarmed strikes to be buffed with spells or sneak attack are heroes in my book.

Especially due to the fact that the SCAG's section on Bladesingers specifically mentions certain types of them using whips! Quote from the SCAG:

IMHO, Reach weapons should be usable without a feat/metamagic. It just makes sense to allow them to use reach weapons, and there's absolutely no reason to not allow them to use it, both from a balance and lore perspective!

All I have to do to get this combo working again is have my familiar hand me 1 silver piece in exchange for the Shadow Blade. Boom, now it's a weapon worth 1 sp, and is eligible for BB/GFB.

That's exactly what I'm going to do. Bladesinging, whip-using, GFBing Bugbears get to be magic Indiana Jones in my games.

I mean, you could argue that Shadow Blade can be used as an improvised shortsword and is therefore worth the equivalent of 10 gp.
