D&D General Bought a brick of the 50th Anniversary minis :(

DarkCrisis

#1 couple in anime
I don't know what I expected.

Over all some cool stuff. I got the 1E Elf. Got some classic 1E monsters. Goblins and Bugbears and Kobolds, but I wanted like a lot of them. Which I get distribution etc...

What I did not like was getting 3 Flair Snails. Really? Good distribution in a brick?

And I guess I should have looked at the contents list online closer because ALL OF THE CARTOON CHARACTERS ARE CHASE FIGURES. As in ONE PER BRICK.

Know which Chase I got? The one worth the least. The Fiend in Hell, which combos with the Paladin in Hell. Which I did not get, because one per brick.

You which Chase figs are going for the most on Ebay? Yeah it's the cartoon characters. DM alone is like $150!

Why would WotC take the cartoon characters. Put them in a new adventures and showcase them for the new updated edition and then make the figures hard to get? Yeah half are cheap from that starter set but what if I want Sheila and DM, and Venger? And especially Sheila.

Lesson learned I guess. Just buy off the aftermarket. Do the Chase go down in cost after a while?

Going to sale the rares for like $20 each maybe turn around and buy some more 1E minis.

I buy tons of wizkids minis. I just bought a case of vecna eve of ruin.

I highly recommend you check out MinisGallery

If you have not already. There is a lot of discussion about distribution of minis in bricks and cases.

I bought what I wanted from the set you referenced as singles. I am with you—-was a little turned off by chase minis of this sort so did not participate.

Sorry to hear about your disappointment…I know how it feels to be disappointed in the blind buying sphere so generally don’t but certainly have several times.

The cases generally have one of everything but it’s too rich for me generally. This was my big birthday present and then some…

I hope u like the no
Non-chase ones! With eye of ruin, I was happy to get duplicates of devils and a horde of skeletons. I actually sold back all of the rares I could save hell wasp and nexromancer!

I sent them for store credit so I can get some
Of the singles from the next set…

I love buying miniatures (unpainted) but I absolutely loath the idea of radom boxes. I can't help but feel as though I'm being ripped off.
I just don’t think it is usually worth it. The singles market for me is the way to go usually.

I feel some differently when a place has a buy back program…even still I like buying singles. You know what you are getting and only buy what you want..

I love buying miniatures (painted)... I have hundreds of painted minis (mostly 2000s DnD minis), and ... probably... twenty times that many unpainted (Reaper kickstarters, board games, etc). And after almost all of my games moved online and stayed there. Now I really have no reason to paint them :'( I stopped collecting altogether (pretty much).

Anyway, as for OP yeah blind boxes can suck. If you're looking for something specific, buy the individual minis. If you just want to build a collection, then blind boxes are OK.

Something else I noticed for anyone buying Wizkids minis, it used to be that online retailers like Gamenerdz would have the best discounts on boxes- but over the last couple years Wizkids has started having deep, deeeeep sales on their own site. Like, 50% off. Keep an eye out for those.
