Since it was noted that Strahd has been on vacation until October 20th, I thought I'd go ahead and bump this today with the thought in mind that perhaps he'll see this attempt to re-start and will express either interest or a no thanks. Strahd, are you interested in resuming play with Grotzkoshter as your PC?

Hi, I just returned from Thailand, It was amazing.
I'm ready to resume the game and play Grotzkoshter, it was one of my favorite games with you CB, I hope I have Grotzkoshter around, come to think about it … the RG still exists right?

Can you send us all the appropriate links CB ?
Thanks.

I can handle four players, but if we want a full 5, we're missing ranged combat back-up. So an archer type or wizard type to round out the group. How are we going to handle introducing new characters?

I haven't heard from Finley or Zilonox, which means that at a minimum this group will be in need of a cleric. I'll wait through this coming weekend before opening recruitment for a cleric and perhaps one other PC to replace Zilonox. Those of you who still feel you want to continue playing, I would like player input as to what class of character (PHB only)--if any--you feel you'd like to see in Korgrave's (the druid being played by Zilonox) stead. I can run this with four PCs no problem. On the flip side, five PCs is also no problem. Right now we have a melee-oriented rogue and a blind bard. I feel we'll need a cleric. Please express your thoughts as to what you'd like to see.

Just letting you know that I am still watching this thread, CB. In possible preparation I'll get to work on a cleric. If it isn't needed, that is fine. I enjoy creating new characters, anyway.

Tailspinner

That's great news, Strahd. Glad your vacation was good.

Tailspinner, the cleric slot is yours. Having had you as a player in the City of the Spider Queen campaign, I feel comfortable with you as a player. To make your introduction expedient and to preserve the somewhat old-school feel of the adventure, I may introduce your character in the dungeon as a hostage whom the party discovers. If, however, you have a different idea, please let me know. Please use the 3.5 PHB when creating your cleric. In keeping with the tone of the module, if you do intend to be discovered or rescued in the dungeon, you may also consider the kobold or goblin race from the 3.5 MM. If not, then please stick to PHB races. Other than that, it should be straight PHB-only, first level, 32 point buy. I forget (can someone please refresh my memory?)...what starting gold did I stipulate the group use at character creation? Please go ahead and post your PC in the RG thread when you have it worked up. If changes need to be made to the PC, we can amend the RG post in the coming days.

Party make up is currently as follows, with soon-to-be inactive PCs in italic:
Strahd--Grotzkoshter, half-orc fighter
Boddynock--Elyan, human bard (blind)
hafrogman--Karl, half-orc rogue
Finley--Kiaphas, elf cleric
Zilonox--Korgrave the Serpent, half-orc druid

I'm looking at a Monday start date.

I'll get on it. The hostage angle will work just fine.

Sounds good.

Just so I'm clear, what's the group's consensus on a fifth player? hafrogman has said he's okay with just four, but he also noted that a ranged weapon specialist and/or a wizard may prove useful. I am comfortable defering to the group's preference with regard to recruiting a fifth or going with the four we have. Opinions?

Elyan's taken Blind Fight, which means that, as well as party buff, he's not inconvenienced in melee. Of course, he's useless at range.

So we have:
  • Elyan - party buff & light melee
  • Karl - trap finder & light (medium?) melee
  • Grotz - heavy melee
  • Tailspinner's cleric - healing & medium melee
An arcane caster might, indeed, be helpful - someone who could double as ranged attack. (Also someone who can actually read magical scrolls when and if we find any!)

By the way, CB, I've noticed that I was thinking of 3.0 rules for the Perform skill when I set up the character. He really should have ranks in Perform (sing) and Perform (wind instruments). I'll tweak his skills and run them past you, if that's OK? (He'll still be primarily a singer but I want him to have instrumental skills as well).

Another thing. I know you don't want Rogue (the dog) to feature in melee, so would it be appropriate to have him execute total defense while standing by Elyan? I figure he'd only attack if ordered, or if Elyan is taken down. What do you think?

'Nock

With an 18 Strength, Karl is no slouch in melee. Options for including ranged attacks might include: giving Karl a mighty composite bow, having Tailspinner build a ranged-wpn wielding cleric, and/or recruiting a fifth player to fulfill the ranged-attack specialist role.

Boddynock...if memory serves, you had Rogue take the attack trick, right? I remember discussing this with you and expressing my trepidation about dogs in melee (having seen one in action at my tabletop game, I know from experience that dogs can seriously kick tail), and I had thought that you and I agreed that Rogue could take the attack trick but that the dog wouldn't feature too heavily in melee so as not to steal another player's limelight. I'm still comfortable with that position. Regarding re-arranging ranks in Perform, as long as Elyan comes out with the same number of skill points, I'm okay with that. Did you purchase an instrument for Elyan or does he have the bard spell summon instrument? If not, Perform (wind instruments) can be taken but won't be useable until Elyan has the physical means to do so. I'm not looking at Elyan's character sheet at the moment (I probably need to re-print copies of everyone's sheet since it's been a while and I haven't the foggiest idea where I stashed the originals from this summer), so I don't remember whether Elyan has an instrument on hand or if he can summon one.

Does anyone else desire to tweak small details about their character? I'm open to assisting those interested, as long as the tweaks are fairly minor.
