Mat Smith's latest "Previews" column has revealed some more info about the Complete Divine - a prestige class and three feats.

Sorry I can't post the links just now - must dash. :(

Cheers!

Having taken a look at the (small) preview on WotC website, what I can get a glimpse from it seems quite good.

The Pious Templar is definitely a renamed version of the Templar from Defenders of the Faith, which I don't remember now what benefits used to give compared to the revised one in CD. I would have definitely preferred it to have its own spell list, otherwise it is just too similar to a Paladin (the only unique feature left is Mettle). However it seems pretty balanced.

The feats previewed are IMHO very nice:

Arcane Disciple is for arcane spellcasters and gives the option to learn the 9 spells from one domain of your patron deity as they were in your spell list, with some tweaks however. You don't automatically know them.
I think it is a good idea for a different Wizard or Sorcerer, for example you could select the Healing domain and learn a couple of Cure Wounds.

Eagle's Wings is a little weak, and I suppose all the animal feats above will be the same. It lets you use one wild shape attempt to grow wings and fly as an eagle (actually slower), without changing everything else to eagle. I think that most of the time you could just do that - wildshape into an eagle and fly - without spending a feat. Also for some unknown reasons it always lasts 1 hour only.

Glorious Weapon is IMHO a great divine feat: spend a turn/rebuke undead attempt to imbue all your allies' weapons into good/evil-aligned. Unfortunately only for 1 round.

I don't remember how much was the slot increase cost for Reach Spell, in CD it is +2.

Finally, the True Believer feat gives you +2 to any one/day ST of your choice and opens up as requisite for other stuff.

Of course, if that's what you're after, why not make a cleric? After all, the disciple doesn't get spontaneous healing...

I guess you'd have to choose whether losing the plate armour, okay BAB, good fortitude save, D8 hitdice, decent weapon proficiencies and access to cleric spells is worth the firepower of a wizard :)

Plus you'd need good wisdom as well, which is one more rather rubbish stat for a wizard...

But I guess the extra versatility is nice.

That's the point at which I would say "Uh - no!" I've seen no end of threads arguing that the Cleric is overpowered, and if the UA version is better... eek! ;)

Not "better" as in more powerful. Just works better, for the player and DM. Makes domain choices truly meaningful, keeps one character from accessing potentially hundreds of spells.

So, the RPGA list doesn't mention new domains?

Changes are as follows:
Pre-reqs: Knowledge (religion) from 8 ranks to 4 ranks.
Pre-Req Feats: lost Endurance, gained True Believer
Spell-Use: used to have unique list, now uses Paladin/Blackguard list
Smite: used to be 7th: 2/day; now 6th: 2/day, 10th: 3/day.
Damage Reduction: used to me 3rd: DR 1/-, 6th DR 2/-, 9th DR 3/-; now 3rd: DR 1/-; 7th DR 2/-
Weapon Specialisation: Used to gain at 1st level, now 3rd level.
Bonus Feat: used to draw from unique list, now from Fighter list.

Look like good changes to me; beforehand, there was no real reason to take the 10th level in templar. (An extra 3rd level spell? Please).

They haven't given the new progression but here it is alongside the old:

1st: Mettle, Weapon Specialization; now Mettle
2nd: Smite 1/day; now Smite 1/day
3rd: DR 1/-; now Weapon Specialization, DR 1/-
4th: Bonus feat; now Bonus Feat
5th: nothing (gains 3rd level spells)
6th: now Smite 2/day
7th: DR 2/-
8th: Bonus Feat; now Bonus Feat
9th: DR 3/-; now nothing
10th: now Smite 3/day

Cheers!
