Since this seems as good as any other thread for a rant about half life 2, here we go. Am I the only one that believes that the original Half Life's role in FPS evolution is overstated? If you ask someone about half life, the discussion inevitably turns not to the single player portion, but to the many mods. This is its true legacy, but it is still heralded for its single player campaign. Its only contribution there is the still formidable implementation of AI, a sad commentary on the evolution of games rather than a compliment for HL. In light of this, I fail to see why there is such hype for the release of its sequel, beyond the accompanying mods, when the original was an above-average, but not revolutionary game.
This rant was partly brought on by the review on Gamespot. I am suprised it received a 9.2 considering the reviewer listed a lot of minor flaws and the not so minor criticism that its very similar to the original. Looks like the hype virus strikes again.
