CSI: Detroit
Any rap song that involves beating women, selling drugs, running from the cops.
Oh wait, thats all of them.
That's like saying every country song is about beer, pickup trucks, and cheating...which isn't true either.
Not to mention that musically, Detroit isn't specifically linked with Rap music in any significant way, or has never been singled out as a mecca for it. If Detroit was linked to a specific type of music, it would most obviously be the R&B and Soul of
Motown - just as Blues is linked to Memphis and New Orleans (and a bit with Chicago), Country to Nashville, Punk Rock to New York and London, and Hair Bands/Glam Metal to Los Angeles. Hell, even if you didn't link Detroit with Motown, it would still be more reasonable to link Detroit with
Madonna,
Bob Seger,
Ted Nugent (the "Motor City Madman"!), or even
DeBarge (actually from Grand Rapids, but recorded on the Motown label) or
KISS (though not from Detroit, KISS's
"Detroit Rock City" would make a good theme). Rap music is prevalent in every geographic area and has become a significant influence in a large amount of popular music across multiple genres (even country!) - but if it was linked to any specific cities, it would be more appropriate for the Bronx and Queens in the East, and Compton in the West. Not to say that there haven't been any successful Rap acts from Detroit (there are), it's just that Detroit isn't any more known for Rap than any other American metropolitan city. The only real mainstream acts from Detroit are
Eminem, and the Rap influenced Country-Rock of
Kid Rock - with only
Eminem being (mostly) straight Rap.
Makes me wonder what your thought-process/motivation was in linking Detroit to Rap music...?
Anyways...back on topic:
I can't think of a single Who song that would work for Detroit. I can think of plenty of songs by other artists - the aforementioned
"Detroit Rock City", Ted Nugents
"Stranglehold", or an outside the box choice -
"Hot Rod Lincoln" by lot's of different artists (though the one I remember the most is
Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen) - but a Who song...that's a hard one!
But, in the vein of this thread, even
Who Are You doesn't work perfectly for the original CSI (other than the reference of the phrase "Who Are You?" with trying to find "Who" the weeks killer(s) is...). To get the character of Las Vegas,
You Better You Bet actually works better.
