. . . the group is already large, and too many players can slow down a PbP game (especially during combat).
What do you think your posting rate will be? We could really use a fighter of some species--particularly a Planes-savvy character--but whether I feel good about adding an additional player depends in part on whether the poster is able to make daily posts. For example, I didn't post for most of Saturday and Sunday in the IC this past weekend, and lost a number of opportunities to contribute. This group posts at a fast clip. Blink and you miss a lot. Well, right now, at least. This is PbP, so the posting rate could and probably will vary. I guess this is where I ask you how much you think you'll be posting here?

Idea #1: Graydon's Familiar (non-combat role) . . . Since I'm experienced with the Planescape setting, I'd rather play a role which allows me to take advantage of that, so probably not a clueless animal from the prime material world...something planar would fit me best. I am also somewhat experienced with Mystara, so perhaps I could play some planar being from that campaign setting...
Agreed. I think a planar familiar would be nifty. Of the three choices you offered, I like the sentient wise-cracking spellbook the best. I like that the spellbook is playful, and that it offers Graydon the opportunity to expand his repertoire of spells. Helping Graydon helps the group, so mo' spells is mo' bettah. Plus, BOOK. Like, cool, man. It's like Tom Riddle's diary all over again. What's not to love about that? I imagine the sentient book could also be hijacked as a plot device and used by the DM, too.

The androgynous golden being sounds intriguing. I mean, it's androgynous. I like it when characters play with gender. I like that the familiar could be useful to the group by opening a portal. Going places is fun! It also seems like you could put to work your extensive Planescape knowledge if you took on this role.

Idea #2: Mimir (non-combat role) . . . unless provoked, in which case it has a mouth fouler than a harpy drunk on rotgut.
It's hard to resist this character concept; I'm a sucker for cussing. The f bomb is my favorite word. It's got a fascinating etymology. The bilabial "f" sounds great. It's one syllable. It multitasks. It's connotative. I adore it. Please tell me you'd use a shi-t ton of f bombs if you go this route.

The mimir is probably going to appeal to most of us because you provided tie-ins to all our characters. I know my eyes bugged out with glee when I read "Delta blues." Shayuri in particular might welcome a tie-in. Shard is so very skittish right now. Having a tie-in for Shard might help make her feel more comfortable. Then again, it might totally wig her out. Potay-to, potah-to.

I sense that you most want to play the mimic. If that's the case, then that's what you should opt for.

Idea #3: The Technocrat (recurring rival "NPC")[,] Planescape is a world of shifting alliances, and one of the interesting things is sometimes having to deal with NPCs you really would rather fry with a fireball. A perfect foil to the party would be Lawful Evil, an enemy to the Dustmen & undead, and opposed to magic and the fey. Basically a materialist. Some kind of ruthless planar pragmatist who espouses a philosophy that only life today matters, and that delaying gratification for the afterlife is for suckers . . . .
This idea is creepy as hell. I love it. It might also work super really well if you think you prefer to post less often. Playing the NPC villain would allow you to cameo for spurts of time, then be vacant for stretches when/if you had other things going on.

Well, actually, I guess it doesn't. I use damn, hell, and bitch on occasion. The site does, however, filter out more egregious offenders like f-ck, sh-t, c-nt, etc.

CanadienneBacon I would probably post a couple times a week, but I cannot do daily posts. Obviously, however, posting rate varies according to the needs of the scene and eveyrone's personal lives.

Thanks for the feedback too. I'll keep watching this thread for feedback from the rest of your group!

P.S. I actually prefer high-brow insulting humor, backhanded compliments, that sort of thing. But I also have appreciation for a very well-timed cuss word that takes people off guard.

I need to flesh out my familiar too... Unsung, I don't think we chatted about it specifically but I want to double check its okay to go ahead... I figured it was back in our room for this part of the game.

Hee hee, and here I've been trying to tone Death Otter's profanity down. :)

Shard appears skittish, but really she's just very off balance. Don't worry TOO much about her. She'll find her footing soon enough. :)

That said, I love the spellbook idea, as well as the mimir. I'm open to tie-ins for Shard, though her backstory is kind of fiddly and complex, so we'd need to discuss the details via PM and get the GM involved. :)

Emoticon overload!
