Mythic Odysseys of Theros may have been delayed until the end of July for most of us, but Fantasy Grounds has revealed some (undoubtedly specially approved) previews for us to look at in the meantime!
I have it preordered both as a physical copy and on D&D Beyond.I've already ordered it and I am thinking about getting at least some of it on a digital platform as well (haven't decided which one), so I am betting it will too!
Or do a Greek adjacent game that plays fast and loose with Mythology. Like Xena...
Why did they not use the original Greek deities? Because they want to claim IPR on these? I don't think they are easily going to make money from them.
Can I just get the monsters on D&D Beyond? That is really the only part I want to see early. Possibly the supernatural gifts as well.I have it preordered both as a physical copy and on D&D Beyond.
Not as a pre-order, but DDB always allows a la carte purchasing. The great thing is that the money that you spend does count towards the full purchase, if you decide to go for it later. Can I just get the monsters on D&D Beyond? If it's seperated like the other DnD books, yes. You can get the backgrounds, subclasses, magic items, monsters, races, and spells of Ravnica separately. Can I just get the monsters on D&D Beyond? That is really the only part I want to see early. Possibly the supernatural gifts as well.
Others have covered it pretty well, yes IP, these fantasy-Greek gods have existed in the Magic setting for years . . . but you could also ask, why didn't they use the actual Greek gods when first designing the Magic cards back in the day? Well, yes, IP again, but that isn't all . . .
You essentially have two choices, you can translate Greek myth directly onto the cards (and later, the RPG) or you can create a Greek-inspired fantasy setting that channels the ancient Greek myths but gives you the freedom to tell new stories.
Why play in the Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, or Greyhawk and not just a fantasy version of medieval Europe? Those types of games do exist, Ars Magica comes to mind, but going the inspired-fantasy route is kinda our default in this genre.
Not on this site please, folks. If you want to attack people for things other than their game design, there are plenty of places you can do that at. This isn’t one of them.
Well, as like 90% of Greek heroes ended up screwed by fate, the gods, or others in the end, that's probably for the best if you want to avoid a tragic or at best downer campaign. The Greeks sure loved their hubris/nemesis tales...Yep, that is what I am thinking. I want to play in a fantasy version of Greek mythology, not the RL version of Greek mythology.
