I know it's not the answer you want to hear, but take a look at Decipher's Trek game using the CODA rules. CODA has a lot in common with d20 and it's good. Really good.

Trust me. ;)

I have to agree. CODA is essentially d20-Lite. With some work, it will convert fairly well.

First, cool :D I had no idea the two systems were so close. Second, how is the Decipher version? And third, has anyone done a CODA to d20 conversion already?

Decipher does an excellent job with the books. The system mirrors d20 in many ways, especially in the use of Target Numbers (ala DCs). It is quite easy for a d20 player to pick it up and run with it as it stands or you can put the extra work in it and convert it to d20. I would, however, just go with the CODA system because of its ease to comprehend.

Although I don't go into the game mechanics much, I did do a review on the two core books in the March issue of d20Zine! which you can download from my site. You may want to look them over.

Thanks for the input...

Has anyone tried to run a Star Trek game using the current television show with Captain Archer (Sp??) set before Kirk and TNG...?

The is very little about the current series mentioned in the two Decipher core books, although it does address the Enterprise time period. I believe that something is in development that will cover this era, but I am not 100% certain on that. Personally, I think that would be the perfect era to run a campaign in because the technology isn't so far out there. It helps keep things a bit more simple. ;)

Ya, that time period is great. Your crew could head out and actually explore space and encounter really cool stuff.. No one says you have to stay 100% true to the timeline either (the current show does not... hehe)

I really like the idea of the players being a special operations group trained to deal with first contact issues and such...

I am not to crazy about the Captain and officers flying down and leaving the ship, when they should be assigning specialist to the task. But considering the ships at the start of the federation were much smaller, the officers could be doing that kind of stuff. I just not sure if a player should play the captain and such...

How does the decipher game handle this?
