So. Many. Cameos.

I haven't closely followed the news around the movie, but did we know about Chris Evans? Wesley Snipes? Channing Tatum? The Cavillrine?!

Great movie. I feel they traded a bit of the humor of the previous films (especially the first one) for nostalgia and shock value, but nonetheless it worked for me. I got the impression that there is a genuine appreciation and respect for the FOX legacy. Most big players of the FOX universe already had their sendoff in "Days of future past" and, clearly, "Logan", but this movie does the same for several minor characters who don't get a lot of screen time, but nonetheless are fundamental to flesh out the setting. And I really liked the mid-credit sequence.

Plotwise, I didn't like Cassandra Nova as the antagonist, as she is waaaaaaaaaaay above the power level of anybody else in the movie. As expected, defeating her required some level of deus-ex-machina. Still, I like what they did with her character, and I didn't expect the direction they took.

Overall, my main two beefs with the movie are not enough X-23 and not enough Dopinder!

Just came home from the cinema and I'm so happy the whole "Fox-Mutants" got a nice bow that wrapped up the longest running marvel movie series (from 2000's X-Men to 2017's Logan).

They really got me with Evans and the whole movie shows what happens if someone who is really familiar with the whole marvel franchise can put things together without too much influence from "above" (if they had any influence I shudder what might have had to be cut).

Also, while thinking about what you really had to have watched to understand the movie I was surprised that Deadpool 1 (maybe 2, but not really neccesary) and knowing who Wolverine is (you didn't even have to have watched Logan as the "important" parts were retold/shown as well) were all you really had to know.
Everything else is just fanservice and easter eggs.

Unfortunately I didn't catch the whole credits but nice to see that Ryan was able to make this a family movie (with at least 3 people from his family in the movie)

I watched Logan ages ago and didn't really remember it anymore so I rewatched it yesterday. That movie had some really slow (and sometimes not really neccesary) scenes.

I didn't feel anything like that in D+W

Also: Didn't Deadpool mention that people are used to longer runtimes now? ;)
Yes, he mentions it and he's quite right. I'm not against longer running times in general, but I'll admit that I do feel that many modern movies are somewhat too long for my tastes. In any event, just a minority viewpoint; the audience where I saw it yesterday was quite enthusiastic and the two friends that I went with disagreed with me about this specific point :)

The Good
Hugh Jackman is always great as Logan/Wolverine, even when the writing is not good. Cameos were fun, and I think they did a solid by the Fox-men films over the past 25 years. Film felt like an appropriate end of the Fox-men era so Disney/Marvel can start over. Cassandra Xavier was bad ass (and portrayed so well)!

The Bad
All Deadpool's former film buddies are sidelined in favor of a cameo fest. Some really long and really unnecessary fight sequences eat scene time that could have been better spent making this a better story; which it had the seeds of. DP jokes didnt quite land as well and DP is feeling tired at this point.

The Ugly
Marvel multiverse shenanigans dont seem to be panning out. This movie will have a lot more legs than it ought to, but it belongs firmly in the second rate pile of post End Game Marvel stuff. One of the things that worked so well in the previous Deadpool films was the ensemble cast. Keeping the character isolated to a small corner of the X-men/MCU allowed those films to really build a set of fun characters and allow Reynolds to let DP blossom. They decided to jettison all that the previous films built for this really long, yet rather simple, multiverse snore. Doesnt feel like it fits in with DP1 or DP2 which were better films and stories.

Jedi Master
While I appreciated the cameo's and send off to the 20th Century Fox Marvel films, and had quite a few good laughs, I felt the movie was borderline terrible, and the long fight sequences boring as all heck. Also, what a waste of a great villain who could have made a truely epic challenge for the next Avengers team-up.

Spider-Man NWH merged story with cameos to far better effect, and Across the Spider-Verse did epic set piece battles and multi-verse shenanigans far better. Both of those films understand story, pacing, and building stakes that the audience cares about. Like Disney Star Wars post Obi-Wan, I think I'm out on future Disney Marvel stories.
