Disarming traps, the dumbest thing

You guys left out the Chaotic reason for picking the locked chest in the dungeon.

Here is a short little description:

Monster are defeated, Thief spots the chest.

After examining the chest he states: "Stand back everyone, I am going to try to disarm the trap. It looks particularly deadly."

All the cowards run in terror, competing to see who can get farthest away from the evil trap.

Rogue thinks to himself. Crap, this chest really is trapped.
He disarms the trap, picks the lock, uses pick pockets to get the ring and small gem lying on top of the gold, and calls out to the party "It's safe now, you guys can come back in."

Do you really want to bother dragging that chest all the way out of the dungeon, only to find out it's full of cracked dinner plates?

At the same time, do you want to bother rummaging through the rest of the Dungeons of Doom, if the Amulet of Yendor is sitting in the first chest you run across?

If you find the Amulet of Yendor just lying around in a chest, it's just a cheap plastic imitation anyway, so who cares?

Why wait?
Why would it be safer to open the chest later/elsewhere than now/here?

Geoff.
