DMG II: Bring on the Mobs!

Let me help straighten it out: Describing the mechanics loosely, as you did in your first post, is fine. Even describing a small portion of the stuff in question is fair use, technically (which is why you'll see OGL discussion go on here; you WON'T find vast sections reprinted here without a section 15, though). Posting the entire mob section verbatim is going to get removed. I haven't seen any moderators get violent about it (and believe me, behind closed doors they're a bunch o' paramilitary super-pirate-ninjas! ;)) but they only thing we don't condone is when someone takes "fair use" outside its intended bounds. We don't want to stir up trouble with WotC or any other publishers here where possible, and we try to eliminate any points of copyright violation if they occur.

What I can say is use good judgment, fair use of small bits are OK, and ask us if you think something is out of bounds; we're glad to help!

With that said, there was an in-depth discussion of Mobs in a DMG II thread about two months ago! I'll see if I can find it.

And they're good at grappling. So.. Mobs of very good grapplers can be a serious problem for whatever cannot escape.
I'm suddenly reminded of the old KoDT strip where (after abusing a rules loophole), the players used a mob of beggars to grapple a Dragon. ;)

So, what level spell would it be for an enchantment to compel a group of humanoids to form and function as a mob for 1 round/level?

What I don't like is the static size for mobs. It means that you need less big creatures to make a mob....IMHO, 12 large creatures does not a mob make.

The stampeding bulls of Pamplona beg to differ.

But the point is moo. :D
Man, that was bad. 10 points from Gryffondor!

Mobs, argh. The sole reason for experienced DMs to pick up the DMGII. I wonder: would I go to hell if I bought the DMGII, photocopied the mob section, then returned the book for a refund? :p
