As far as a mounted fighter the paladin gets a mount at lvl 5 that they can ride and that can dash, dodge or disengage for free with a 60ft movement. The drakewarden gets a dragon that has a great breath weapon but only at a higher level, it gets a better rend and it gets its resistances at an earlier level. Why?
No.Do you like the Purple Dragon Knight Subclass?
Using WotCs grading system.
Interesting point of view. It’s only a retcon if it changes the past. Changes in the present are a development.
Interesting point of view.
Regarding the PDK: as written it's a big fat retcon.
They are juat testing the mechanics, not the lore.We need the context, it's frustrating without it. Can't know if it's a retcon or a development or even a result of time travel.
No it is not. It says what the Purple Dragons are NOW. All it says about their history is that they were originally founded in Cormyr, which in no way contradicts existing lore.Interesting point of view.

Heh.No it is not. It says what the Purple Dragons are NOW. All it says about their history is that they were originally founded in Cormyr, which in no way contradicts existing lore.
All this is talking about THE PAST. Things CHANGE. Organisations go international. Foreigners can be knighted for diplomatic reasons. What things do not do is stay the same. Irrespective of this subclass, Cormyr is going to have changed because it is being updated in the new setting book (and many years have passed).A “Knight” in Cormyr is a least noble rank that’s awarded on an individual basis. There are individual Purple Dragons who’ve earned the rank of Knight. (There are non-Purple Dragons who’ve earned it, too.)
However, there’s no such thing as a “Purple Dragon Knight.” There are no chivalric orders among the Purple Dragons and there never has been.
The Purple Dragons don’t recruit outside of Cormyr
Until now.The Purple Dragons have never ridden dragons
