I agree with what everyone said. However, I also will make a gentle suggestion:
If you suspect that a wizard doesn't realize how his magic works, it's a good idea to inform him how it works BEFORE he casts the spell. After all, his character would realize the risk of casting charm person on a fighter.
If he honestly thinks that the fighter would be oblivious (and it's an understandable mistake), then of course he'll get mad when the spell fails and the fighter attacks.
There's plenty of good ways to screw players. Just make sure you do it fair and square.
