D&D (2024) Do you think they will add more races to PHB2024 to make up for dropping other stuff?

Clueless Prime: "Blasphemer! How dare you call an Angel, an ass-whatever!"

Planar: "Look you clueless git, where I am from, your angel is called an Aasimon."

Clueless Prime: "There you go again! Insulting an angel!" 😋

I agree with you in general. I'm not sure that 5e did that (all that much). At least they didn't do what 4e did to the Realms (It didn't bother me then, I'd barely ever played in the Realms at the time, but I really understand why it was widely loathed). Perhaps it's a bit of your "I like the changes", maybe, but it's more "I don't see the changes", or at least, "I don't see the changes as significant."

That's not to be dismissive of your position! In fact, I wouldn't mind a couple of specific examples from you as to changes that you object to, if for no other purpose but for me to nod and say, "I see what you mean" even if they don't bother me.
The entire concept of the Ravenloft setting in 5e, and the cosmology of 5e's Spelljammer, spring to mind as specific examples. Hard to not notice those changes unless it's your first exposure to those settings.

But what is an Aasimar?
Having it as a feat will give separate take on aasimar depending on what 'base' race is.
Same with tiefling, goliath, warforged, shifter, dragonborn, etc....
See, for me, I lose all belief in the game world if there's this multi-mix of vampire+werewolf+cyborg+catgirl+elf running around.

I think characters should have one special thing, or it gets too weird.

But, I also like race as class. I wish they brought THAT back, really make people cry.

There are plenty of OSR games that use race as class. You don't need WotC to do it for you.

Yes and? There are also plenty of games that offer a mix-and-match building block approach to characters, but people are hoping for that as well.
You said you liked race as class. I thought it would be helpful to know that there are active games where that is an option. Why would you mention it otherwise?

The Ravenloft setting being islands in the mist, and the new Astral connection for Spelljammer correct. Neither of these strike me as particularly major changes having read the original material.

But to be exact I largely disagree with your basic premise that any major change should never be allowed. You would rather all things stay the same and never be updated. The idea that trying to reboot or bring something back is disrespectful is overly harsh towards people who were fans of the same thing.

Maybe.
But what is an Aasimar?
Human with celestial blood or elf with celestial blood?
Is it the same with both?

A tiefling without the riz?
